I readied another Trump piece for today, but I'm getting tired of him. Yesterday featured the final weekend of the National Football League and the Golden Globes, while today we have the NCAA football championship, so I'll instead report on them.- Barbie got 9 nominations and Oppenheimer 8.
- O beat B, winning the Best Motion Picture-Drama, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey, Jr., and Best Score for Ludwig Goransson.
- Here is what I said on July 23rd after seeing both:
- Christopher Nolan was nominated in 2017 for Dunkirk, and four other times for lower categories. Best Film? Best Director? Should get both nominations, but winning? Maybe, and even perhaps both.
- However, the film is more about Robert Oppenheimer than anything else. Cillian Murphy I predict will win the Oscar for Best Actor. His dazzling blue eyes was as important as his commanding performance, and the real Oppie did have those eyes.
- Robert Downey Jr should be nominated for playing Lewis Strauss, the villain in the movie.
- The women in the film were not all that important. I don't think Emily Blunt should be in the top five for Best Supporting Actress. However, the success of this film might just raise her up there.
- There is an award for Best Original Score, (this is the entire 1 hr 35 min score from the film) which can be a mix. O was largely written by Ludwig Göransson, 24 separate pieces for a total of 94 minutes and 42 seconds. Again, just the status of the film could be the determining factor.
Of course, these were the Golden Globes and not the Oscars. However, sure looks good for Oppenheimer. There was a lot more, but read the article from Time magazine.
Incidentally, if you are addicted to Netflix, you might have missed:Netflix’s limited series Beef was an instant success, finding a large audience. The lead performances from Ali Wong and Steven Yeun were lauded by critics, so it’s no surprise the two leads took home awards for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made For Television, giving us a beef sweep.
All about road rage revenge. We all have almost been in this situation. Now, suffer through 10 episodes.
