FILMS TO STREAM THIS WEEKEND

My streaming is limited to Netflix and Amazon Prime, and I avoid animated and comic book films.  I do more series watching than anything else, but now and then view available top movies. The  Top Ten Netflix films  currently are: #1   Your Place or Mine , about two best friends who are total opposites and live across the country from each other.  Stars Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kucher.  We enjoyed it.  However, I then went to  Rotten Tomatoes , and saw 31%/38%.  What a surprise.  It was weak, but somewhat entertaining. #2   The Woman King , starring Viola Davis and John Boyega.  I have avoided it because....well, just because.  Checked  Rotten Tomatoes  and saw fabulous 94/99 ratings.  I guess I now need to see this.  A historical action drama about an all-female warrior unit that protected the West African kingdom on Dahomey during 17th-19th century.  This film was set in the 1820's, with Davis as a general.  An all-women production, also including Maria Bellow, who helped sell

GOURMET, NOT GLUTTONY

I yesterday focused on Dante's Inferno, where the Third Circle is for the gluttonous.  To avoid that area of Hell, I'm hereby making a case that my meals are gourmet and not gluttony.  I usually watch the Kentucky Derby, and prepare the traditional Mint Julep: Did you know that the state of  Kentucky produces 95% of all the bourbon in the world ?   The Mint Julep is simply  2 oz of bourbon 0.75 oz of syrup  crushed ice a few mint leaves, with a sprig to garnish Sold on Friday ( when the Longines Kentucky Oak s is run for fillies, which are female race horses ) and Saturday ( the Derby ) for $9, although one with a souvenir cup sells for $15. For charity, 11 gold-plated and 89 silver-plated mint juleps are made available by early reservation.  The gold goes for $2500, while the silver  costs only $1000.  This year, what was inside those cups was something called  Cherries and Cream Julep : 2 oz Woodward Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon, the official bourbon 0.5 oz cherry juice

MY CUISINE AT 15 CRAIGSIDE

The UK went a different way on vaccinations.  They chose to inoculate as many people as possible rather than first immunize an individual with both shots, as the U.S. is doing for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.  The point is that you do gain, perhaps, 10 points in protection with both shots.  However, even one makes a big difference in affecting the community, and, further, this delay for the second injection seems to be essentially okay.  The graphic to the right from the New York Times . By now anyone who regularly reads this blog knows that I live in a seniors' community called 15 Craigside.  Today, I will clear my desktop by transferring these food photos into this posting. On Wednesday I had an international St. Pat's meal.  My green life began the day by walking on the Ala Wai Golf Course.  Did well, and my pulse rate remained below 100 pulses/minute because a group ahead of us played reasonably slowly. I might mention that I've seen hundreds of pigeons over the yea
