The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 333.87 points, or 0.71%, to 47,540.99 .   I'll begin this week with a quick summary of what is happening in the U.S. and World.  The U.S. Supreme Court went into session today.  Don't expect much this year.  How to survive President Trump will be their primary goal. The Nobel Prize announcements have begun. Six of them are awarded in physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, literature, peace and economics. Established by the will of Swedish inventor ( dynamite )  Alfred Nobel  since 1901.  The award in economics was added in 1969. Swedish organizations select the winners in all categories, except for peace, which comes from Norway.  Why?  No one knows for sure, except that this was specified in Nobel's will. Today, U.S. scientists Mary Rundow (64) and Fred Ramsdell (64), and Japan's Shimon Sakaguchi (74), were named recipients of the  prize for medicine.   Their work relates to how we keep our immune system under control.  They each get $400,000, but more importantly...

The story of the day occurred today in the White House.  First, Donald Trump met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, followed by a second session, with Zelenskyy and six other European leaders. The public portion, with leaders praising Trump, was cordial.  Trump too was generous. Much of what happen will unfold later, for they group went into private session. But it looks like there will be a united front to seek peace with Russia, possibly with a ceasefire, but maybe not, and the European Union and U.S. in a strengthened mode to end the war. Trump had earlier in the day talked to Vladimir Putin, and said there would be a second call after the European meeting. Looks like peace might now be closer than not, and Trump could well win a Nobel Peace Prize if all goes well.
