ABBA NIGHT ON THE OCEANIA RIVIERA

???  Yes, that Swedish pop group, because it was featured last night in Horizons of the Oceania Riviera.  Is it that or ABBA?  Doesn't matter. Here is video of ABBA night on the Oceania Riviera. Perhaps the most energy-intensive one event yet on this ship.  Not only the Four Corners band singing, but the six entertainers from the theater show. ABBA: Is a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972, the year I received my PhD and began teaching at the University of Hawaii. Of course no one knew who they were back then, until they became Sweden's first winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with  Waterloo .  When they won, Agnetha Faltskog was 24 and Bjorn Ulvaeus was 29, they were married, and Benny Andersson was 27 and Anni-Frid Lyngstqd was 29, the other couple, only going with each other. If you look closely, ABBA came from the A and B from the first name of the first couple, and B and A from the second couple. Read about how these two marriages ...

OKINAWAN CULTURE

This is a brutal  point of view on COVID-19 from the UK  presented by Dr. John Campbell on You Tube, and some text from   The Guardian : Herd immunity will not be reached. Like the flu and colds, everyone will eventually contract COVID-19. If  you're unvaccinated, you could get very sick. If you're vaccinated, you will have a 90+% chance of only having mild symptoms. Testing is a waste of time, and some countries like Germany will soon only test when you get infected and enter a clinic or hospital.  It seems unnecessary to vaccinate children, for they generally don't get very ill.  Yes, they can transmit this disease, but, then, if doesn't matter, for you will get it anyway some day. My apartment is cleaned weekly on Fridays, and I usually wait at a table by the elevators during this 45-minute period and do some reading.  Recently, I saw on the table  INTRODUCTION TO OKINAWAN CULTURE , co-authored by Kyoko Hijirida and Tomoko Oshiro.  I thoug...

WHY MUSIC IS IMPORTANT

I was about to start posting with the title:  How Many Strings Does a Zither Have ?  Classic Arts Showcase on TV in the morning sometimes influences me on what to write.  The first video had Anton Karas playing the zither for The Third Man , and I noticed there were a whole lot of strings.  I have problems with just four of them on my ( wife's ) ukulele.  The zither had to be a greater challenge. But my first duty of this day was to exercise my knees, so I switched the station to the '70's.  I do this on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings before breakfast.  It's been just about a year now, and as might be expected, but nevertheless to my astonishment, my knees are not a problem now when I walk on a golf course.  But more than that: My posture is a lot better when walking. My toes are stronger in the bathtub when taking a shower.  I didn't realize before how important they were in maintaining stability. I've gained a quarter inch in heigh...
