PONTA DELGADA, AZORES, PORTUGAL

Day 28 found us in Ponta Delgada, Azores, Portugal. Photos from the pool deck. 441 Lunch of salad, soup and noodles, with a gin & tonic and beer. Went to the pool deck for a walk, and saw the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos. Dinner in the Garden Cafe buffet with glasses of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Karaoke in The Cavern Club. Midnight snack in the Atrium. Walked  a good 4410 steps today. Ponta Delgada, on the island of SÇŽo Miguel Island, is the capital of Azores in Portugal. First populated in 1444. There are around 68,000 people now living on this island. Ponta Delgada became a city in 1546 after the 1522 earthquake, which devastated the island. The Cult of the Lord Holy Christ of the Miracles is the largest and oldest religious event in Portugal. The Azores is one of two autonomous regions of Portugal, along with Madeira. There are nine volcanic islands about 870 miles west of Lisbon. Possibly discovered in 1427 by Gonçalo Velho. In 1583, Philip II o...

OMG ADVENTURE

Our Monumental Global Adventure....or OMG Adventure....or Oh My God Adventure....was indeed memorable.  But before summarizing the entire trip, just had to first insert the latest travail....and trial....of Donald Trump. With all his tribulations, the  latest poll  just released by the New York Times and Siena College showed that Donald Trump leads Joe Biden in five of six key swing states.  What is wrong with America? Which is why I lead off with him. Michael Cohen is today testifying in Donald Trump's hush money trial, and will be doing so for a couple more days. Stormy Daniels did great last week. Why is Playboy model Karen McDougal not testifying?  Possibly because she was paid by the National Enquirer not to reveal that she had an affair with Trump.  There is a sense that Stormy did enough damage, and too much salaciousness might hurt the prosecution. Last week I posted  on what will happen at the end of this trial.  Today, here are my odds: ...

CONDÉ NAST: The Around-the-World Cruise Guide

Before I get into the   Condé Nast   article, a few items of import today: Congress is in session, and the House is scheduled to vote on their rules package tonight.   This bit of legislation simply provides the  rules of the House . This will not be covered like those 14 Speaker voting embarrassments, for who really knows, this could also go on into several attempts. Chances are, though, that they'll succeed on vote #1. But, over the next two years you can expect gridlock, government closures, full court presses to gain revenge over Biden, the January 6 House Special Committee and the Judiciary Department, for, guess what, Rep. Jim Jordan chairs the Judiciary Committee. Yet, Republicans can't be really that stupid.  Sure, ignore country, world, Democracy and sanity, but will their highest priority be for Republicans to dominate on 5 November 2024?  Will that happen?  Doubt it. The same thing that jolted our nation on 6 January 2021 i...
