AS THE WORLD CONTINUES TURNING

Now that the Summer Olympics bubble burst, how are you handling the withdrawal effects?  Well, the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics begin in 543 days.  Cortina d'Apezzo is 270 miles from Milan.  Interestingly enough, the following Winter Olympics returns to France in 2030, with some events scheduled for Turin, Italy.  They had no competitors.  What happened to the Orient or the Americas or the Southern Hemisphere?  The very first one was held a century ago, 1924, in France (Chamonix).  The USA has hosted four times, with Salt Lake City the most recently in 2002. What more can be said about the Paris Summer Olympics?  If American women were their own nation, they would have come in third behind the USA and China, even with the loss of Jordan Chiles' bronze medal. Did you know that in the very  final event of these Olympics, the USA women's basketball team beat host France, 67-66, for the gold ? 36-year old Steph Curry is why the USA men's basketball team members have gold

PARIS SUMMER OLYMPICS, COVID-19 AND SUPERSHOES

This has been a memorable Summer Olympics.    None more so than the effort of Noah Lyles . He tested positive for COVID-19 three days ago.  Suffering from asthma anyway, he should have gone to the hospital.  He said he had symptoms and did not feel well, coughing a lot.   But he wore a mask indoors and, with only his inner circle knowing, chose to compete in the 200m dash.  He made it through to the finals, but finished "only" third.  He collapsed and was in agony lying on the track after the race ended, placed in a wheelchair to leave. His summer olympics competition is over, and he is overjoyed. He might have already contracted COVID-19 when he won the 100m race by 0.005 seconds. Remarkable. Heard of Quincy Wilson? Say you are 16 years old, and a junior in high school. Youngest USA track Olympics member ever. He already did poorly for the USA just qualifying for the 4x400 meter finals tomorrow.  He might be replaced, but probably not.  Watch the event. There are younger c

MYSTERY MAN OF THE ATOMIC BOMB

To follow-up on the Kamala Harris - Tim Walz ticket, some humor.  Read Laura Yuen's op-ed,  No, Walz isn't old.  He's 60 (which is the new 40 ).  To quote. Joe Biden is old. Now that he’s dropped out of the race, we all can agree Donald Trump is old. Kamala Harris looks youthful. Tim Walz appears oldish, but he’s only about six months older than Harris. Our governor, who was announced as Harris’ vice presidential running mate, acknowledges the disparity. The former teacher attributes his graying appearance to having supervised a high school lunchroom for 20 year s. Retorted Walz:   You do not leave that job with a full head of hair. Trust me . By the way, Brad Pitt is also 60.   Photo taken this year , in an article that says he is worth $400 million. Yuen also had a dig at Trump:   The lines on his face come from the worry of protecting Minnesotans during COVID-19, and the glee from being swarmed by schoolkids when he signed a free-lunch bill into law. When I’m the age of
