WHAT ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATIONS COULD BARBENHEIMER GET?

Well, I survived  Barbenheimer , and was underwhelmed by   Barbie   and consumed by   Oppenheimer .  Sure,   B   got twice the box office revenues of   O , but that is because   B   is for children with grandparents, and   O   was R-rated, with actual nudity.  The two, combined, earned more than half a billion worldwide dollars in one weekend, and both were actually highly rated by reviewers. The bizarre attraction is that they are two films that are about as opposite as you can get, making it a once in a decade event.   About possible Oscars?  Let me start with  B : Margot Robbie was the star, and she in the past got two nominations, in 2018 for  I, Tonya  as Best Actress, and in 2020 as Best Supporting Actress for  Bombshell .  I don't think this kind of movie can be taken seriously, so she probably will miss the final cut of five actresses. Ryan Goslin, however, might slip into the top 5 for Best Supporting Actor.  He too has had two nominations, Best Actor in 2007 for  Half Nel

BARBENHEIMER or BOPPENHEIMER or OPPENBARB?

Yesterday I provided details on the official cocktail of Wimbledon, which is Pimm's Cup.  Well, what do they eat there?  Strawberries and Cream, plus Scones. So today I watched a nearly   5-hour match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic .  A rollercoaster of a great final.  First game to Djokovik, 6-1.  Third game 6-1 for Alcaraz.  Fifth to Alcaraz for his first Wimbledon championship.  I took photos on my TV screen.  The King was not there, but Kate was. If you were wondering why the first photo at the top, tennis was actually my game when I was younger.  If not for my  high school victories , Stanford might not have accepted me. This coming Friday, July 21, is looming as a special day for cinephiles, as two films,  Barbie  and  Oppenheimer , are opening.  Why so?  You can't find two more divergent over-hyped productions premiering on the same day.  Makes for a once-in-a-lifetime double-bill for the uber adventuresome.  I can't imagine even considering paying to see

THE STORY OF BARBIE

Barbie's official birthday is March 9, 1959, even though she was 19 years old when she was born! If you consider Barbie to have been 0 years old when she was born, she would be 64. If you consider the fact that she was born at age 19, Barbie would be   83 years old as of March 9, 2023 . Other notes: Cost, $3. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.   She is not officially married to Ken, and has no children. A mint-condition 1959 Barbie doll would be worth $28,000 today.   However, the most expensive Barbie ever sold was a collaboration between Mattel and designer Stefano Canturi in 2010:  $302,500. Read this  if you want all the details about Barbie, such as, she was manufactured in Japan from 1959-1972, then later in Mexico, Hong Kong or Taiwan. Greta Gerwig's  Barbie , the movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, plus American Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrel, Helen Mirren ( narrator ), Rhea Perlman and Michael Cera, is set to be released on 21July2023.   Simu
