SUPER BOWL 2024: The Aftermath

The Game: Taylor Swift arrived at Allegiant Stadium  with her mom and friends at  11:22AM , Hawaii Time. She was wearing Black, so at +550, this color would have resulted in a payoff of $65 if you bet $10.  Well, she was carrying a red jacket, but that's secondary. Game started a shade after 1:30PM Hawaii time.  I was standing in line at 15 Craigside to pick up beer, hot dog and boiled peanuts, so missed the kick-off. The  Kansas Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime, 25-22.   It was as good as the Super Bowl has ever been, with Patrick Mahomes being the Most Valuable Player.  He didn't propose to anyone, as he is already married, so that bet lost ( look at my posting of Saturday about what this means ). Proposition results: National Anthem :  Reba McEntire took 95 seconds, longer than average for her.    There was chaos  because the under/over was 91 or 91.5, but she repeated the ending, which some sportsbooks nullified.   Watch the ending , with six jets flying over

THE SUPER BOWL IS TOMORROW

Why is the number 58 important this year?  This happens to be Super Bowl LVIII, roman numeral for 58.  Try to find Super Bowl 58 on any logo.  Maybe on a jersey. Alex Barrett of the 49ers will be the only #58 on the field.  Why does the NFL want to confuse people with a numbering system no one really knows? “The Roman numerals were adopted to clarify any confusion that may occur because the NFL Championship Game — the Super Bowl — is played in the year following a chronologically recorded season,” the NFL once wrote in a   postseason media handout . The thing about the Super Bowl is that it is not just a football game.  I went to a theater for the very first after the pandemic when I saw a double-bill of  Barbie  and  Oppenheimer .  I would never go to see  Barbie , which for me was colorful, and that was about it.  Loved  Oppenheimer  because that's the kind of film I like.  I predicted it would someday win a bunch of Oscars, which will no doubt occur on March 10.  Why I took a ri
Of course, by now you must know that GOAT is the acronym for Greatest of All Time.  Morning Consult has provided  one such list   of the greatest Super Bowl commercials,  and #1 is the Doritos/Cheetos  Push It  with cute animals and Salt-N-Pepa's song. But something like commercials are too vague to gain any kind of true consensus.   USA Today  used Ad Meter involving 150,000 panelists, and for 64 ads, here were the  best as of 14February2022 .  The GOAT was  Anna Kendrick doing Rocket Mortgage . I think the actual GOAT was the  Apple commercial of 1984 , which introduced Macintosh, the computer I used today to crank out this posting.  The ad changed the Super Bowl forever.  Note the link to George Orwell's novela,  1984 . Others seem to select the Mean Joe Greene 1979 Coca-Cola ad where he says,  Hey Kid, Catch .  I can live with that. Here are all the  commercials so far submitted  for the upcoming Super Bowl.  Or do you want a sneak peek of  maybe the funniest ones ?  Are th
