MUNICH TO COPENHAGEN

Had a final Westin Grand executive club meal and drinks yesterday.  Red wine, white wine and sparkling wine with snacks, then a chicken dish with salad. We had a hotel credit so ended the night at their bar for Ballantine's and Johnny Walker Black on rocks. The taxi ride from the Westin Grand to Munich Airport cost around $100.  Those red numbers stand for maximum  speed in kilometers/hour.  The 120 thus means 75 MPH.  If there are four thin lines over the number, there is  NO SPEED LIMIT. Airport check-in was swift and easy.  Went to the Lufthansa Senator Lounge.  There is also a Business Class Lounge.  Had just about exactly same meal as yesterday, salami sandwich with a German beer. Our Lufthansa flight took off on time.   Copenhagen Airport, CPH, is the largest airport in the Nordic countries, with 31 million passengers/year before the pandemic.  The Daniel Inouye Honolulu Airport only handles 21 million passengers/year. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark with a municipality

FINAL DAY IN MUNICH

Germany and Denmark are two of 27 member countries in the European Union. The EU was formed in 1993. The population of the EU is 448 million, 5.8% of the world population, and higher than the 335 million for the USA. Has one-sixth of the world GDP. With GDP of $19.3 trillion, the EU is #2 to the U.S. with $28 trillion, and ahead of China with $18.6 trillion.   Where will the EU be in 2028? They share boundaries, have a common economy and a unified political leadership.  I remember a long time ago picking up a car in Sweden and driving to Italy.  Crossing into a new country was painful.  Not anymore. Noteworthy for not being a member are Norway (something to do with fishing resources) and Switzerland ( it's complicated, but has to do with historical independence ). Also not a member are Turkey, Liechtenstein and Iceland. Of course, the United Kingdom experienced Brexit in 2020. Potential new members are:  Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey. A complication is wh

HOW SAFE IS MUNICH?

We leave the Westin Grand Munich tomorrow for Copenhagen.  The hotel itself is now more and more appreciated.  We walked around the neighborhood, led by my Blue-bar Pigeon and passed through a supermarket, where we purchased some suckling pig. The season for those giant white asparagus has just started, and I'm trying figure out how to have a meal of them.   The WGM is also convenient to the various transport modes taking you to downtown Munich.  This photo is to the city, and note that snow-topped mountain range.  Alas, we decided to just stick around the WGM for there are shopping areas and a nice market.  One of those been there and done that experiences.  For example, when I was here seven years ago, I caught the U4-Bahn into Odeonplatz and took the usual touristy photos. Was led around by my Blue-bar Pigeon. Saw an almost black tulip, which reminds me of where we will be in a few days. Had a truly great lunch at Schuhbeck's. Read the details and view my grilled octopus, tr
