AMERICAN SPORTS TODAY

Today, sports.  In the past I've posted on   Tampa, Florida,  because this seems to be the city for sports champs.  Today, I'll expand the kudos to the entire state, for their excellence has been almost remarkable. To begin, the Florida Panthers are in the Stanley Cup.   Not sure who will oppose them , for the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights will play game 5 tonight, with Vegas leading 3-1.  The Panthers, incidentally, are located in Sunrise.  Sunrise?  That's in Broward County, in the Miami metropolitan area.  Population, around 100,000. It hasn't been easy, for the Panthers had to come back from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Boston Bruins, who had set NHL records in wins (65) and points (135).  Earlier last month Florida was ranked #12 in the NHL, with the Bruins at #1.  The Florida star is a 25-year old American, Matthew Tkachuk Or maybe like Tampa, I need to focus on Miami, for their NBA Heat was at one time 3-0 against the Boston Celtics.  Now, 3-2, with g

JOY AND GRIEF

I'll start with a lot of grief.  Did you notice that the World has passed   200 million COVID-19 cases ?   That's 2.6% of the global population.   Note that our current pandemic shows a current total deaths of  4.3 million , significant, but only 0.06% of people on Planet earth.   Smallpox killed 500 million . The odds for you being here so far because of this novel coronavirus are  1767 to 1.    Not only don't I personally know anyone who died from this pandemic, I don't know anyone who even was infected.   And I live in a building holding 200 seniors. Only 2% of humans around the world live in elder-care facilities.  THIS GROUP WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR  MORE THAN A THIRD  OF ALL COVID-19 DEATHS. A century ago, the  H1N1 Pandemic , also known as the Spanish Flu, killed  50 million  when the world population was 1.8 billion. That's almost 3% of the world population. It is said that the average life expectancy in the U.S. dropped by 12 years. However, there are estimate

CAN YOU BET ON THE TOKYO SUMMER OLYMPICS?

I play fantasy sports because they give me something to root for when I watch the games on TV.  As much as you want players on your team to do well, you almost as much hope all the other players don't, and maybe even get injured.  The ESPN baseball competition is free and you win nothing but pride.  But that's enough for me.  Incidentally, my four teams are in 6th, 3rd, 2nd and FIRST, in a league of 8. When I go to Las Vegas, I only dabble with the machines.  I  remember I was once in Sparks, Nevada, had a nice steak dinner for almost nothing, and on the way out dropped a quarter in one.  For no reason at all, three quarters rolled out.  I couldn't lose.  In a short while I filled one of those LARGE buckets with quarters.  Must have been several hundred dollars.  Clearly it was broken, so I had two choices:  leave immediately with my winnings, or summon an employee to report this malfunction.  I went back to my motel.  Yet, I thought, why not, so I went back.  The machine w
