WHY DOESN'T CALIFORNIA SUFFER FROM HURRICANES?

Kiko remains a hurricane , but should by tomorrow weaken into a tropical storm.  If the eye went over Hawaii, there would still be some devastation and a lot of flooding.  However, the track has been predicted to pass sufficiently north of the state such that high surf and associated damage might well be the only problem. In the West Pacific is  Typhoon Tapah,  which just attained typhoon strength today and made landfall over China well away from Macao. The Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of America are eerily quiet as high season begins.  No serious ocean storms are predicted for at least the next week. In the East Pacific is  Post-Tropical Cyclone Lorene  so inconsequential that it is not even shown on the map. She was a hurricane on September 3, strengthened to 85 MPH on the 4th, but later that day lost hurricane status. Almost all ocean storms in the East Pacific threaten Mexico, especially the Baha Peninsula, but only very rarely extend into California....

THE LASTEST NATURAL DISASTER: Hilary

The Lahaina Apocalypse death toll remained the same, which is good news, but the missing number has not changed, which is bad.  The Bidens are now in Reno, and arrive on Monday, which means Air Force One needs to leave before Tropical Storm Hilary gets close.  This not a political statement. But speaking of politics, I noticed that MSNBC and CNN are not covering the 9PM EDT First Republican Debate, which will be televised by the Fox channels.  I wondered why, and found a June 2023 article indicating that the  Republican National Committee asked for news companies to bid, and Fox won .  MSNBC and CNN, of course, will have their top panelists analyze for two hours the results from 11PM EDT. The other newsworthy item of the day has to do with natural disasters.  The more topical event is now  Tropical Storm Hilary .  The media makes Hilary sound like it will the first time ever for the Southern California to be so threatened.  Actually, while ha...

A WEEK AT 15 CRAIGSIDE

CBS News  reports that the Lahaina Apocalypse death toll is now up to 114.  Read a complete  NBC News  account of the tragedy. I'm now in my 9th year at 15 Craigside.  This was a typical week of my life here. We are managed by a church, so of course Sunday has services: Buddhist, United Church of Christ and Virtual, whatever that was.  There was also strength training and something called Balance for You.  Monday had more exercises, osteoporosis, advanced strength, strength and stability, a Bon Dance, advanced yoga, Ukulele Get Together and Aqua Fit in our pool. Tuesday was my day for Beginning Tai Chi.   Watch a video from the University of Hawaii .  And another,  lesson one for Tai Chi beginners . There was also more strength training, yoga, balance for you, hula class and an exercise machine demo, with Afternoon Tea.  My losing streak at poker continued.  This was tie dye Tuesday.  Like in kindergarten, they offer ...
