THE ART OF LYING

Donald Trump tosses out lies...all the time.  Actually, worse, for they are abhorrent, appalling, atrocious, dangerous, dreadful, horrendous and worse.  He is a pathological liar, psychologically known as mythomania.  When The Amazing Randi lies, it is mostly for a good purpose.  Who is Randi?  I'll get to him later. Here, from Health Encyclopedia of the Rochester Medical Center: For your birthday, your aunt knits you a sweater that is, well, downright hideous. You tell her, 1) “I'd go out in an army blanket before wearing that;” 2) “It would look better on a peacock;” or 3) “It's beautiful, Aunt Sylvia! I really need a sweater.” If you chose the third response, well, you’re a liar. Don’t feel bad, however. If the truth be told, most of us lie to some degree, especially when faced with an alternative like hurting the feelings of poor, good-hearted Aunt Sylvia.   Some of us, however, lie so often that we don’t realize it. That’s when it becomes the sort of problem that may n

THE WEEK TO COME

The future of Democracy for the USA got a boost from former Congresswoman Liz Cheney and her father, former  Congressman, Vice President under George W. Bush and White House Chief of Staff for President Gerald Ford.  Like JD Vance, Dick Cheney graduated from Yale.  Liz is a law school graduate from the University of Chicago. Better yet, it appears that Liz will campaign with Harris as needed and the  Harris-Walz team raised $361 million August, triple that of Trump-Vance .  Plus all those  additional campaign volunteers  to boost their ground game. The highlight of this coming week is the Donald Trump vs Kamala Harris debate. Finally, some good news for Boeing and NASA.  The  Starliner spacecraft returned to Earth, but without the two astronauts.   When are they returning, and how?   A lot of unknowns remain .  Looks like February of 2025, with SpaceX looming to be the carrier.  But the USA might need to ask Russia for help. Last week I had a sidelight coverage of Rupert Murdoch and hi

FREE STREAMING CHANNELS

At one time, the only option was to use a TV antenna.  There was no cable.  You still can turn on your TV set and see a lot of channels for free.  In most cities, just with a home antenna, you will have access to 50 or more stations, and as many as 175 in the Los Angeles area.  These are full HD 1080, with 5.1 surround sound.   You can cut off from cable, but watch out for scams.  For one,  there is no 150-mile TV antenna .  In fact, 70 miles would be the acceptable maximum.  Also, no 4K broadcasts yet. However, most of us have some form of cable.  But there are still all kinds of free movie/series sources.  You need a supporting device, as for example Amazon Prime, apple TV, smart phones, Playstation 3, Roku, smart RVs, Blu-ray players, web browsers, etc., and here is one  list of the best free streaming services : #1    Freevee Click here . Clunky interface. Part of the Amazon Prime family. #2   Roku Channel Download on mobile phones and tablets, or through the web. Buy a Roku from $

BACK TO ENTERTAINMENT

Nothing about that liar today, but one note on the Israel-Hamas ceasefire plan mentioned by President Joe Biden on Friday.  Today, Ophir Falk, chief foreign policy adviser to Benjamin Netanyahu, said that  Israel agreed to the deal .  In the meantime, Israeli forces are now entering Rafah.  Maybe more importantly, it appears that  Hamas responded positively to the offer .  A lot more to come before an actual agreement.  But this is the closest the Gaza Strip has been to peace since October 8. America's Got Talent is back into Season 19 on Tuesday nights on NBC for two hours, followed on Wednesday with a one-hour results show.  This year each judge will get two Golden Buzzers. I saw the first episode earlier this week, and the following individuals impressed me: Ballerina Ashlee Montague balance act on champagne bottles .  Amazing. I hate dog acts, but  Adrian Stoica and Hurricane were heartwarming . Baby Dev , all of 2 years old, can really do math...well. Comedian  Learnmore Jonas
