THE SEARCH FOR AWE

While a chapter in  one of my books summarized religions of the world ,  I studied up for this feat by reading  Religion for Dummies .  As such, accepting artificial intelligence sources as superior to my brain, a good part of my posting today will draw from Google AI Overview.  What is that?  Read  Wikipedia . What inspired me about Searching for Awe, was my reading today about  Rosh Hashanah , the Ten Days of Repentance which culminates in Yom Kippur, which this year will begin at sundown on October 1, and extend to nightfall on October 2, a period of 25 hours. This is also Hebrew year 5786, which began on the evening of 22September2025, the first day of Rosh Hashanah.  Note that when you subtract 2025 from that number, 3781 BCE is the calculated date of creation.  But understand that these numbers are more a chronological reckoning based on early interpretations.   Watch this video about the meaning and warning about the yea...

WEEKEND SPORTS

Today, all about sports.   I have a lot of TV-watching planned for this weekend, and my teams are likely to mostly lose.   Hawaii football at Air Force:  no chance here.  The elevation is 6,621 feet, second most to Wyoming's field.  Hawaii always loses at Wyoming too. Hawaii women's volleyball:  the team has injuries and seems to be wallowing.  Should lose tonight against Cal-Davis. Marcus Mariota will start for the Washington Commanders against the Atlantic Falcons because the starting QB is injured.  Won't be shown in Hawaii. The Miami Dolphins host the New York Jets on Monday night football, so this game will be televised in Hawaii.  They are 0-3, and Tua Tagovailoa is having a bad season. Team USA is being soundly beaten by the Europeans in the Ryder Cup.  Continues today and ends tomorrow.   One lowlight was the appearance of President Donald Trump yesterday .  With him was granddaughter Kai Madison Trump. ...

SOMETHING NEW AND SOMETHING OLD

I'll start with an old, but new, topic.  This past Sunday I posted on   eternal life .  Well,   Time   reported on   The Man Who Thinks He Can Live Forever.   Absolutely fascinating article about Bryan Johnson ( here below with Kate Tolo, the chief marketing officer for his company, Blueprin t), and to quote: Johnson, 46, is a centimillionaire tech entrepreneur who has spent most of the last three years in pursuit of a singular goal: don’t die. During that time, he’s spent more than $4 million developing a life-extension system called Blueprint, in which he outsources every decision involving his body to a team of doctors, who use data to develop a strict health regimen to reduce what Johnson calls his “biological age.” That system includes downing 111 pills every day, wearing a baseball cap that shoots red light into his scalp, collecting his own stool samples, and sleeping with a tiny jet pack attached to his penis to monitor his nighttime erections....
