I remember the first Super Bowl in 1967 when the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Soon thereafter, a little more than half a century ago, Joe Namath predicted that the Jets would beat the Orioles, and in a memorable upset, did. The TV audience rating was 13% higher than the most popular program then, Laugh-in. Good, but nothing compared to last year, when the game drew a household rating of 41.1, more than FIVE times the next best current program. And Super Bowl 54 had the smallest viewership in a decade. Starting with around 50 million, the recent number has hovered in the 100 million range. Nearly 50% of anyone watching television from 6:30PM to 10PM EST will be looking at Kansas City versus Tampa. If you add the entire world, perhaps as many as 150 million could watch this Super Bowl. However, the FIFA World Cup Finals ( soccer ) typically draws more than 500 million ....
