THE FUTURE OF THE USA

It was a rough night.  Nightmare became reality.  Not only will Donald Trump again become president, but the U.S. Senate will be Republican controlled.  Probably the House too.  Said   Time : Trump campaigned on an authoritarian agenda that would   upend America’s democratic norms , and he is already preparing to deliver on it: mass detention and deportations of migrants; revenge against political enemies via the justice system; deploying the military against his own civilians. How far he chooses to go with the power the public has handed him is a question that will shape the fate of the country. A good look at  Project 2025  provides you the Trump agenda.   Global warming?  While it might not be a hoax anymore, the U.S. will not be cooperative, citing the actual recalcitrance of China and India as reasons.  Trump is also beholden to fossil fuel interests.  The world will suffer. Freedom?   Abortion rights will b...

ACAPULCO

On the way to Acapulco we had a mild nightlife, starting with an Oriental Dinner in the Garden Cafe. Mostly Chinese food, and not much at that.  The hot sour soup was lukewarm, but a shot of Johnny Walker Black Label helped.  Everything was too salty.  Watched ADDA in the Atrium. That was it.  Only 3366 steps today. We are now in Acapulco.  View from our cabin. Looks like Waikiki. Lunch of salad and pho, with a Mexican beer and rosé. Yesterday, I essentially walked 3/4ths of mile to gather the buffet lunch.  Today, only half a mile. Acapulco de Juárez is commonly called Acapulco. 3080 miles south of Seattle. 1987 miles south of San Diego. 240 miles south of Mexico City. 2223 miles north of Panama Canal. 3775 miles east of Honolulu. By the 8th century, the Acapulco Bay area had a small culture dominated by Omecs. Followed by Mayan,,then the Aztec Empire around 1500. The Spanish came in the 1520s as linked to Hernán Cortés. Cortez built a major ro...

HOW SAFE IS MUNICH?

We leave the Westin Grand Munich tomorrow for Copenhagen.  The hotel itself is now more and more appreciated.  We walked around the neighborhood, led by my Blue-bar Pigeon and passed through a supermarket, where we purchased some suckling pig. The season for those giant white asparagus has just started, and I'm trying figure out how to have a meal of them.   The WGM is also convenient to the various transport modes taking you to downtown Munich.  This photo is to the city, and note that snow-topped mountain range.  Alas, we decided to just stick around the WGM for there are shopping areas and a nice market.  One of those been there and done that experiences.  For example, when I was here seven years ago, I caught the U4-Bahn into Odeonplatz and took the usual touristy photos. Was led around by my Blue-bar Pigeon. Saw an almost black tulip, which reminds me of where we will be in a few days. Had a truly great lunch at Schuhbeck's. Read the details ...
