Before getting into the topic of the day, a few notes about the state of politics in the USA. Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney today joined Kamala Harris in her Wisconsin stop.  More specifically, Ripon, where the Republican Party was formed in 1854.  This was the first time Cheney has campaigned with Harris.  This will be all about the future of Democracy.  She is only one of hundreds of prominent Republicans who have endorsed Harris over Donald Trump. And about The Donald,  DC Judge Tanya Chutkan released the 165-page filing from the Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, arguing that the former president doesn't deserve immunity from criminal charges because his conduct was for private gain rather than duty of public office . There won't be any trial anytime soon, but these details further diminish Trump's hope to be re-elected. Today is like the end of summer, for tomorrow begins September.   But you can enjoy life until Tuesday, for Monday is Labor Day, a national holiday. All things considered, the world at this very moment is doing fine: Internationally: The Hamas attacked Israel on 7October2023.  There will be a  three-day cease fire beginning tomorrow in the Gaza Strip to vaccinate 640,000 Palestinian children against polio , which has no cure.  The first case in 25 years was just reported, so maybe this is a possible first step to a larger truce to come. Two doses of two drops of a live virus to be taken orally.  2000 medical volunteers will do the job.  The world yet awaits that expected revenge response from Iran on Israel. Russian invaded the Ukraine in February 2022, and remains in control.  But the fact that Ukraine has lasted this long, and is  now into Russian territory , is a surprise.  The U.S. is approaching a  trillion dollars for the Afghanistan war   (still spending ).  $113 billion so far

The U.S. Supreme Court this morning declared that Donald Trump does have immunity for official acts!!!    In other words, they took the guardrails off his power if he becomes the next president.  When you add to this monumental judgement the awful performance of Joe Biden at the presidential debate last week, and you know what Trump will do if he gets re-elected, one can only wonder if this is just the beginning of the end of Democracy in the United States. That above paragraph is, actually, an exaggeration of the reality.  Trump and the MAGA movement, of course, are ecstatic and now emboldened by SCOTUS's action.  However, here is what actually happened: The vote could have gone 5-4 against Trump, because there are the three liberal female associate justices and five conservatives.  However, Amy Barrett was only barely in the winner's side corner, and Chief Justice John Roberts, while also siding with the majority, had some cautionary words.
