Nothing to do with a hurricane hitting New Orleans.  Tomorrow is Super Bowl LIX or 59.  This logo was created by "Queen" Tahj Williams ( below ) of the Mardi Gras Indians.  They are African American carnival revelers in New Orleans.  Their origin goes back to around 1730 when they danced during the Mardi Gras.  This is the first time that the NFL has collaborated with a local artist on the design of a Super Bowl Emblem.  Note the fleur-de-lis, resemblance to ironwork balconies and color combo, evocative of New Orleans and the Mardi Gras. Another first is that the Super Bowl game will be streamed for free via Tubi, owned by Fox. Earlier this week,   New York Times   columnist David Brooks wrote an op-ed entitled,   The Jan. 6 Committee Has Already Blown It .  I have long followed his editorials, and universally tend to agree with him.  This time, I think he has missed the mark. Essentially, Brooks said that the Committee has a chance to save Democracy, but seems to be distracted by small-minded thinking, like nailing Donald Trump and winning the mid-term elections.  He specifically mentioned that this group has to insure that the confirmation process on 6 January 2025 and 6 January 2029 revert back to those of 2017 and before. Is this the beginning of the next pandemic surge?  From the  New York Times  this morning. You've read about  Philadelphia's return to indoor masks .   But what about the other regions?   Remember when the Alpha variant hit Michigan and Minnesota about a year ago...then fizzled?   So sure predictions are difficult.  Of course, most new cases are being caused by the Omicron BA.2 subvariant, the most contagious virus yet, but the combination of vaccinations, high number of previous asymptomatic cases, home tests ( which are generally not reported ) and mildness of the resultant symptoms is not affecting the hospitalization rate, with a continuing decline of death rates.   We are now in the mode of uncertainty tinged with optimism.
