Before getting into the topic of the day, a few notes about the state of politics in the USA. Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney today joined Kamala Harris in her Wisconsin stop.  More specifically, Ripon, where the Republican Party was formed in 1854.  This was the first time Cheney has campaigned with Harris.  This will be all about the future of Democracy.  She is only one of hundreds of prominent Republicans who have endorsed Harris over Donald Trump. And about The Donald,  DC Judge Tanya Chutkan released the 165-page filing from the Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, arguing that the former president doesn't deserve immunity from criminal charges because his conduct was for private gain rather than duty of public office . There won't be any trial anytime soon, but these details further diminish Trump's hope to be re-elected. The U.S. Supreme Court this morning declared that Donald Trump does have immunity for official acts!!!    In other words, they took the guardrails off his power if he becomes the next president.  When you add to this monumental judgement the awful performance of Joe Biden at the presidential debate last week, and you know what Trump will do if he gets re-elected, one can only wonder if this is just the beginning of the end of Democracy in the United States. That above paragraph is, actually, an exaggeration of the reality.  Trump and the MAGA movement, of course, are ecstatic and now emboldened by SCOTUS's action.  However, here is what actually happened: The vote could have gone 5-4 against Trump, because there are the three liberal female associate justices and five conservatives.  However, Amy Barrett was only barely in the winner's side corner, and Chief Justice John Roberts, while also siding with the majority, had some cautionary words. Donald Trump will win some and lose some.  He's had some important wins so far, most having do with the Republican presidential primaries, ownership of the Republican Party and affect on Congress.  My speculation of what will happen into the future.  First, I predict that he will become the Republican presidential candidate.  A good win for him.  If, against current odds, he selects Nikki Haley as his vice-presidential running mate, another big win for him. Let me start with the Supreme Court, and all the following are my guesses. They will allow him to run for president, a win for Trump. They will say, by not hearing the appeal court decision, or taking time to make a Supreme Court decision, that Trump is not immune from prosecution.  A huge loss for Trump.
