You will note, of course, that today is January 9, 2024.
- Yesterday was the last day to file pre-trial motions for Georgia defendants to strengthen their case.
- Michael Roman, former Trump campaign staffer, accused District Attorney Fani Willis of an act to defraud the public of honest service by alleging a secret romantic relationship with Nathan Wade, a top prosecutor to lead the investigation against Trump and his 18 co-defendants.
- Willis said she will later formally respond.
- Donald Trump's attorneys filed a motion claiming he had presidential immunity from the 13 charges Willis brought against him.
- About #2 above:
- The three-lady appeals judges expressed deep skepticism toward Trump's argument that he can't be prosecuted for trying to overturn the 2020 election.
- Trump showed up in court, again taking advantage of media coverage to raise funds and show his prominence.
- Chances are that this federal appeals panel will rule against Trump, sending the case to the Supreme Court to determine is Trump has immunity.
- When? Perhaps a week.
- When will the Supreme Court Act? Who knows, but they have not been particularly supportive of him in the past when it comes to personal matters.
- While the latest Iowa poll (today) of their Republican primary has Trump at 51%, DeSantis at 17% and Haley at 16%, 538 also today indicated: Trump 42%, Haley 30% and DeSantis 6% in NEW HAMPSHIRE.
- Also, a new CNN New Hampshire poll released today, conducted by the University of New Hampshire, has Trump at 39%, Haley 32%--only a 7% difference--with Christie 12%, Ramaswamy 8% and DeSantis at an embarrassing 5%.
Interestingly enough, although Nikki Haley is a former governor of South Carolina;
- The 538 poll about the South Carolina Republican primary race released today showed Trump 53%, Haley 24% and DeSantis 13%. 538 is owned by Disney.
- During the past few days, Trump numbers have actually gone up.
- In fact, that 53% figure is the highest Trump has ever been since polling began back in April of last year.
- Why such a big difference between New Hampshire and South Carolina?
- The Economist, December 31-January 2:
- Biden 41% Haley 36%
- Biden 44% DeSantis 41%
- Biden 44% Trump 44%
- ActiVote in the October 6 to January 3 period: Biden 46% and Trump 54%
- What is ActiVote? Not sure, but you can visit their home page HERE.
- Morning Consult for January 2-4: Biden 41% and Trump 43%
- Morning Consult for January 5-7: Biden 43% and Trump 42%
- Who is Morning Consult? From Wikipedia:
Have you wondered how much Donald Trump is spending on lawyers for all the above? Zero. As of a couple of months ago, his Save American political action committee has paid $37 million to more than 60 law firms and individual attorneys since January 2022. Then again, Reuters reported a $40+ million bill for just the first half of 2023. So the answer is considerable, but all paid by his supporters, not him.
