THE WORLD TODAY

  I'll begin this week with a quick summary of what is happening in the U.S. and World.  The U.S. Supreme Court went into session today.  Don't expect much this year.  How to survive President Trump will be their primary goal. The Nobel Prize announcements have begun. Six of them are awarded in physics, chemistry, physiology/medicine, literature, peace and economics. Established by the will of Swedish inventor ( dynamite )  Alfred Nobel  since 1901.  The award in economics was added in 1969. Swedish organizations select the winners in all categories, except for peace, which comes from Norway.  Why?  No one knows for sure, except that this was specified in Nobel's will. Today, U.S. scientists Mary Rundow (64) and Fred Ramsdell (64), and Japan's Shimon Sakaguchi (74), were named recipients of the  prize for medicine.   Their work relates to how we keep our immune system under control.  They each get $400,000, but more importantly...

A RATHER EXCITING COMING WEEK

At one time the posting today was named,   What is Death?   Then I decided to use these contents next week.  But that title still applies, for our government was supposed to be shut down, or die, this weekend.    However, Speaker Kevin McCarthy took the bipartisan pathway and all is well for the Federal government, at least until another death threat deadline comes in mid-November.   McCarthy will, of course, undergo another kind of death, lost of his speakership, to be advanced by recalcitrant Republicans this week.  Matt Gaetz will be at the head of that line.  Will they succeed?  Maybe Democrats will save McCarthy.  Such is the nature of politics in the House of Representatives today.
