WEEKEND SPORTS

Today, all about sports.   I have a lot of TV-watching planned for this weekend, and my teams are likely to mostly lose.   Hawaii football at Air Force:  no chance here.  The elevation is 6,621 feet, second most to Wyoming's field.  Hawaii always loses at Wyoming too. Hawaii women's volleyball:  the team has injuries and seems to be wallowing.  Should lose tonight against Cal-Davis. Marcus Mariota will start for the Washington Commanders against the Atlantic Falcons because the starting QB is injured.  Won't be shown in Hawaii. The Miami Dolphins host the New York Jets on Monday night football, so this game will be televised in Hawaii.  They are 0-3, and Tua Tagovailoa is having a bad season. Team USA is being soundly beaten by the Europeans in the Ryder Cup.  Continues today and ends tomorrow.   One lowlight was the appearance of President Donald Trump yesterday .  With him was granddaughter Kai Madison Trump. ...

SHOULD YOU WALK 10,000 STEPS/DAY?

Many of the newer electronic watches today have a built-in pedometer.  The Apple SE second generation includes this device, and is  on sale at Amazon.com for $169 .  The Ultra 2 costs $599.  Two years ago I bought a  pedometer from Amazon for $16 .  Use it regularly and haven't changed the battery yet.  I don't really need an Apple watch, for I have several cheap ones I've owned for decades, plus an Apple 16 Pro, which, of course, provides the time. Among the applications of my pedometer. Golf. The average golfer playing 18 holes walks a little over  six miles .  I was able to do this before the pandemic. Surprisingly enough, carrying your golf bag does not take a lot more energy than pushing/pulling a golf cart .  Much better to push than pull. Eighteen holes of golf on a riding cart still involve 3-4 miles of walking.  Now that I'm 84, I ride, but still regularly count from 6000 to 7000 steps/round, which convert to  3 to 3.5...

MY WONDERFUL LIFE AT 15 CRAIGSIDE

If you're old, you can live alone, with family or in some kind of senior's residence.  I have now been 11 years at 15 Craigside, up Nuuanu Avenue from downtown Honolulu.  Not exactly cheap to live here, for I hate the thought of my travel partner and I paying $12,000/month to the administration just to be away on a trip.  At the end of the year, we will fly to the Tokyo, spend a few days there, then take back to back cruises before returning home in the middle of January.  Our travel bill, thus, is $24,000 for the two of us,  just to be away .  But there is no other option if you want to travel, for the end is near, and I have to do this now.  As they say, you can't take it with you, even if you get to Heaven. See the tall building below?  That is not 15 Craigside.  It is a condominium adjacent to our smaller blueish building to the right.  I lived in a penthouse of that bigger Craigside for 32 years.  So I've now been on this same ...
