OUR NATIONAL DEFENSE (WAR) BUDGET

A week ago, my posting was:       NOSTALGIA TUESDAY:  My First  Huffington Post  Article I talked about the beginning of the  Huffington Post  and my first contribution on 29May2008 to, in those early days, still a fledging web newspaper:       Well, Barack, We have a Problem ...  The problem, I thought, was the horrendous size of our national defense budget, but the opportunity Barrack Obama had to combat peak oil and remediate global warming by transferring funds into these programs.  Better to save humanity by taking care of these problems instead of escalating the potential of war and a nuclear winter. But he first had to beat Hillary for the Democratic nomination, then, as it later turned out, Republican John McCain for the presidency. Three months later on 10August2008, with the presidential election still about three months away, I followed up with: Why Do We Spend So Much On National Security? Let me see now,...

NOSTALGIA TUESDAY: My First Huffington Post Article

On Tuesdays, this blog site reaches back to the past and brings back an old posting to review and update.  I wrote more than a hundred articles for the  Huffington Post , so I won't be doing this for all of them.  Over the coming Tuesdays I'll pick the most relevant ones only. First of all, what is  The Huffington Post ? In May ,  celebrated  20 years of groundbreaking digital-first journalism . The  Huffington Post  was founded in May of 2005 by Arianna Huffington and others as a progressive alternative to conservative news websites, such as the  Drudge Report . In the early days, most of the news reports for the  Huffington Pos t came from unpaid bloggers like me.  I don't quite remember how I got recruited, but my contributions began in 2008.   SIMPLE SOLUTION ESSAYS  is a compilation of the first 75 papers. The company was acquired by AOL in 2011 for $313 million. Also in 2011,  Jonathan Tasini on behalf of b...

WORLD PEACE FOR HUMANITY

The World is not at peace.  There is still war in Ukraine. Israelis are again killing people in the Gaza Strip. The  USA yesterday bombarded dozens of targets in Yemen  controlled by Iran-backed Houthis, killing at least 31. President Donald Trump has a draft list of  43 countries banned from entering the U.S .  There are three categories, red, orange and yellow.  On the red list are Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen. The Doomsday clock was on 28January2025 moved to 89 seconds to midnight,  THE CLOSEST EVER TO DOOMSDAY .  Not only the threat of nuclear armageddon because of Russia, but now also global warming and the threat of artificial intelligence. One of my more obscure subjects of interest is world peace.  My first  Huffington Post  article, in 2008, was entitled:   Well, Barack, We Have a Problem ... This article was published when Barack Obama and ...

DID YOU KNOW THAT PRESIDENT GERALD FORD WAS ALMOST ASSASSINATED BY TWO FEMALES, SEVENTEEN DAYS APART?

Donald Trump escaped assassination twice, the first by a smidge, and second through alert security prevalence.  Did you know that  President Gerald Ford, too, in 1975, survived two attempts, within three weeks ? Both occurred in California by women. On 5September1975, on the grounds of the California State Capitol in Sacramento, Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, a follower of Charles Manson, drew a Colt M1911 .45-caliber pistol on Ford when he reached to shake her hand in a crowd.   She had four cartridges in the piston, but none in the firing chamber, so the gun did not fire.  Was immediately restrained by a Secret Service agent. Sentenced to life in prison and released on 14August2009 after serving 34 years. Published a book about her life in 2018,  Reflexion . Now lives in Marcy, New York with her boyfriend in a house decorated with skulls.   Says she is still in love with Charles Manson, who passed away in 2017. On 22September1975, 17 days later, 45-y...
