NEW YORK CITY IN THE CURRENT SPOTLIGHT

$1,000

The Iran war has cost the typical American household $1,000 since it began in February, according to an estimate shared by Moody’s Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi.

Zandi cites the rise in fuel and food costs resulting from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz as the main driver. He added that his estimate “is, if anything, conservative.”

“The true cost is likely higher—meaningfully higher. It’s fair to ask whether it was worth it.”

So how are the MOU discussions going?  Not well.

About that Heat Dome.

  • Temperatures might reach 115F.
  • I checked DC temperatures, for this is where the 250th celebrations will be held, and the highs don't look that bad, reaching 100F today and tomorrow, reaching 97F on Saturday and 93 with rain on Sunday.
  • Even lower for New York City:  Thursday and Friday up to 98F, 95F with showers and maybe lightning on Saturday, and only up to 87F on Sunday, with some rain.  However.
“In New York City, a low temperature of 84 degrees is forecast on Thursday night. That would match the *average high temperature* this time of the year and be the equal-warmest night in the city in 158 years of record keeping,” Washington Post meteorologist Ben Noll posted on X.

And speaking of NYC, the spotlight by drone today, almost leading to my motion sickness (watch this video), was inititiated by a masked couple from Russia, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, who scaled up to the top of the antenna of the Empire State Building.

  • They unfurled a banner of love:  When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.
  • Ivan purportedly proposed to Angela.
  • They know what they're doing, for they were the daredevil climbers of the 2024, Skywalkers:  A Love Story on Netflix.  Rotten Tomatoes:  74/94.
    • The film was released in IMAX in 2024, and now can be found on Netflix.
    • Attained top 10 status in over 2 dozen countries.
    • Their Empire State Building stunt went up to 1,454 feet.
    • In the documentary, they went up to 2,227 feet on the second-tallest building in the world, Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I asked Google AI, so will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce wed this weekend?

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are hosting their multi-day wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The highly anticipated July 3 bash—timed to coincide with Swift’s favorite holiday weekend —is a massive, heavily secured event expected to draw roughly 1,000 guests . [1, 2]
A timeline of the weekend's events and reported details : [1]
  • Thursday, July 2:
A rehearsal dinner for an intimate group of about 100 people .
    [1, 2, 3, 4]

Why Madison Square Garden?

  • She has performed there eight times.

  • To perform will be Stevie Nicks and Tim McGraw.
  • What will Taylor wear?  Vogue guesses.  I think, too, that the color will be white.  However, Kathy Silva wore gold.

Finally, on Sunday, July 5, MetLife Stadium will host the Brazil vs Norway match.  Sure, this is New Jersey, but Manhattan is only 10 miles away.  About this FIFA World Cup.

  • Yesterday, Norway's Erling Haaland scored in the 86th minute to beat the Ivory Coast, 2-1.  He said:  I was dead tired, so I thought ‘I can’t cope with extra time, so we have to score.
  • So far, both Canada and Mexico have won their first knockout round games.  First time for Canada to reach the Sweet 16, and the last time Mexico made it this far was 40 years ago.  Will the USA make this a perfect threesome for the hosts?

  • From Time magazine:

A pair of Bosnian players to keep an eye on are Edin Dzeko and Esmir Bajraktarevic. Dzeko, 40, is the all-time leading goal-scorer for Bosnia and Herzegovina, and one of Europe’s most feared strikers, having suited up for the likes of Manchester City and Inter Milan. “He’s one of the game’s great eternal snipers,” says Bennett.

Bajraktarevic, nicknamed “Milwaukee Messi,” grew up in Appleton, Wisc., and played for a Milwaukee-based club team starting when he was 13: he’s the son of Bosnian refugees from Srebrenica, where more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed in July 1995 in what the International Court of Justice concluded was a genocide.

    • “This game is going to be like watching 11 U.S. Jet Skis against a large Bosnian battleship, really a Balkans collective,” says Bennett, whose book We Are the World (Cup) was released earlier this year.
    • The USA has lost 10 straight games against European opponents.
    • What exactly is Bosnia and Herzegovina?
      • Absorbed into Yugoslavia in 1918.
      • Gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1992.
        • You would think that this merging of Bosnia and Herzegovina happened then.
        • Nope, they were two distinct regions, but treated as a single geopolitical unit since the 15th century.
    • They were at war with each other until the Dayton Peace Agreement in 1995 brought peace, but kept them as two autonomous entities in one nation.
    • Has geographical size between New Jersey and West Virginia.
    • Population of 3.4 million
    • $24,123/capita GDP, versus $94,430 for the UsA.
    • Have trying to get into NATO since 2010 and the European Union since 2022.
    • Soccer, known as football there, is the most popular sport.
Victor Willis, 74, the lead singer of the 1970’s disco-group Village People, has died. Texas-born Willis co-wrote many of the band's biggest hits including the iconic “Y.M.C.A.

    HOW TO WATCH NETFLIX SHOWS

But first, maybe  President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza Peace Plan is showing some progress .   No one expects the Hamas to accept all of them, but they did agree to release all captives and the act of handing over administration to Palestinian technocrats. So far, in the Gaza Strip, 66,288 have been killed and 169,165 wounded.   On 7October2023, almost two years ago, 1139 were killed in the initial Hamas-led attack. About my topic of the day, I've long been lamenting the overflow of watchable films and series available on Netflix and Prime.  Why expand into the plethora of other streaming options when I can't keep up with what I have, which costs me around $30/month.  And, of course, why venture out to a movie theater to end up watching a film that will cost me around that amount of money, when you add the popcorn, drink, gasoline cost, time it takes to get there and back, and the risk of a car accident or worse.  Oh, also getting infected with ...
