- Iran war continues with the Strait of Hormuz closed and little in battleground activity. Invasion of Kharg Island?
- Maybe tomorrow?
- The sudden death of Senator Lindsey Graham was a shock. Now what?
- He was the Republican to face Democrat Annie Andrews on November 3.
- Republicans now need to go through essentially the same (but different) process as Democrats in Maine to find a replacement.
- There are 114 days until November 3, so both parties have enough time.
- Fritz Hollings was the last Democratic Senator from South Carolina. That was 20 years ago. The other senator from this state is Tim Scott.
- Prediction markets in January of this year gave Democrats less than a 10% chance to beat Graham. However, last month that percentage had jumped to 21%. On November 3 with no Graham on the ballot, who knows for sure?
- The FIFA World Cup is taking a 2-day break.
My life was not always rainbow-like. You can read the details.
- Began with Part 1 on Sunday, 31May2026. This was my first 27-year educational period.
- Parts 2a and 2b delved into my 27-year work phase.
- Part 3 is all about my 27-year retirement interval, with 3a into the early years, 3b mostly about the books I wrote, 3c into my doing nothing much, plus about my wife, and 3d and 3e, which led to global adventures seeking a special tree she like, then to dropping off her ashes.
- There will be other world-wide trips in Part 3, but today, I re-look back at my life and how much it has evolved into a RAINBOW.
- To see one, the Sun needs to be at your back, with the cloud, rain or mist in front.
- If you're on a plane, the rainbow can be a circle.
- You would think that a rainbow should smoothly phase from the highest to lowest wavelength. Yet, you will always see Red (longest, 620 to 750 nanometers) at the top (or outside in circle), then Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet (380-450 nm). Remember this acronym: ROYGBIV. You can't these colors, but Infrared is even longer, while ultraviolet is shorter.
I've driven into rainbows on the Manoa Campus at the University of Hawaii.
- My office parking area has long been close to the corner of East-West Center Road and Dole Street. In the earlier morning, say 8AM, when it rains, the sun is sometimes at the right location for me to do this.
- Of course, when you arrive into a rainbow, it disappears. A rainbow is an optical illusion.
- Irish folklore has leprechauns hiding their pots of gold at the exact spot where the rainbow touches the Earth. Because rainbows are illusions, with no fixed end, the gold is impossible to reach, serving as a cautionary tale agains greed.
- Similarly, all my professional life, I have had goals that seem to be illusory. Certainly, magnificent obsessions.
- In the mid-70s, I worked at the NASA Ames Research Center in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
- Later in the 70's, I spent assignments at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory on Laser Fusion.
- From 1979 to 1982 I drafted legislation on hydrogen and ocean thermal energy conversion.
- In the later years of my career, the 90s, I helped develop the concept of the Blue Revolution.

Actually, unlike rainbows, which can be seen, but are not really real, all the above, I think, will someday bear fruit. I was just too early for these pathways. Visionaries in the future will benefit from my thoughts.
To end, I live where there are frequent rainbows. Nuuanu Valley is perfectly conformed to create rainbows. Like rainbows too? Move to 15 Craigside.
