WE WILL BE ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, FROM MEMPHIS TO NEW ORLEANS

Bus took us to board the American Cruise Line Melody. their newest on the Mississippi.  Watch this 11 min 23 sec video to get a full tour of the boat.  In general:

  • While ships are designed for open, deep-sea navigation, boats are for smaller inland, river or coastal waters.
  • Remember U-boat during the world war, for the German Unterseeboot?  Stands for undersea boat.  So yes, a submarine is a boat.
  • A very large yacht is still a boat.
  • The Melody was actually launched in 2021, measures 269 feet long and 56 feet wide, and is a boat.
    • Holds up to 180 passengers and has four decks.
    • Known for large staterooms, with standard rooms of 250 square feet.  The fourth floor has suites, and our room 418 has 405 square feet.  You can read the details here.
    • It is nearly 400 miles from Memphis to New Orleans.  Maybe a 6-hour drive,  Our itinerary, which will take 13 days, or 12 nights, to complete

Frankly, I am surprised, if not shocked, about the Melody.
  • I expected an old paddlewheel like I remembered seeing in the film Showboat.
    • That movie occurred on the Mississippi River.  The song, Old Man River, was about this river.
    • The Melody has no paddlewheels.
    • What luxury.
      • On entering the room, a bottle of Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch, red wine and champagne in the refrigerator.
      • The cuisine has been fabulous.  No buffets.  We get personal service for everything.
      • Large TV screen.
      • Excellent bathroom.
      • Comfortable King Size bed.
Got on board in time for lunch, which featured ribs, with a beer and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, plus dessert.
At the public bar you can also pick up free snacks and drinks.
Having a drink on our veranda.
Before dinner was a cocktail hour with appetizers.  Plus entertainment.

The first night for dinner we joined a table of eight.  First, sunset.
Our table.
Started with two wines and soup.
After dinner, went to see a rock band playing songs of our era, and danced a bit.
Very exhausted.  Twas a fine day on the Melody.

HOW TO WATCH NETFLIX SHOWS

But first, maybe  President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza Peace Plan is showing some progress .   No one expects the Hamas to accept all of them, but they did agree to release all captives and the act of handing over administration to Palestinian technocrats. So far, in the Gaza Strip, 66,288 have been killed and 169,165 wounded.   On 7October2023, almost two years ago, 1139 were killed in the initial Hamas-led attack. About my topic of the day, I've long been lamenting the overflow of watchable films and series available on Netflix and Prime.  Why expand into the plethora of other streaming options when I can't keep up with what I have, which costs me around $30/month.  And, of course, why venture out to a movie theater to end up watching a film that will cost me around that amount of money, when you add the popcorn, drink, gasoline cost, time it takes to get there and back, and the risk of a car accident or worse.  Oh, also getting infected with ...
