MY CONTINUED LIFE IN PURGATORY

First, the latest on the War in Iran:

  • According to Mother Jones:  Just one in four Americans supports the Trump administration’s ongoing strikes on Iran, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday.
  • However, my sense is that the American public identifies more with the wishes of the people of Iran, and what Trump has done has opened the door to a possible successful revolution.  We'll see the true reaction over the coming weeks.
  • But say, the USA masses don't support Trump on this war.  So what?  He will continue on with what he wants.  Perhaps he sometimes will make a positive difference.  Don't know if he has yet, but maybe this could be a first.
  • Al Jazeera has a complete counting of casualties.
  • While three American troops have been died so far, the attack not only killed the Supreme Leader, but 47 other Iranian leaders.  Also destroyed were nine Iranian navy ships.
  • A three-member leadership council has been formed to lead Iran:   President Masoud Pezeshkian (left); the chief justice of the Supreme Court, Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei (center); and a member of the Guardian Council, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi (right).
  • Oil shipments through the strait of Hormuz will be threatened, so expect oil prices to jump.

Well, on to my posting of the day.  I joke that I live in Purgatory, also known as 15 Craigside.  As you must know, if you are in Purgatory, your next phase is Heaven, never Hell.  How long this takes could be forever, which would not be all that bad for me.  So the following is what I do in the process of purification.  Good cuisine.  Below, a soba salad.

With beer and coffee.

A luau with beer.
Tofu and sashimi, with green tea.

Unagi bento with $99.90/pound Otoro sashimi

Karaage chicken with corn, coffee and beer.

Watching the Winter Olympics with another bento and Korean soju.

All kinds of activities at 15 Craigside.  Below, cocktails and dancing.
Our Valentine's Day Ball featured those on our hospital floor.

Of course we have rainbows in Purgatory.  Valentine's Day at 15 Craigside.

We have a lot sunshine.  A typical view.

Special meals, such as for Valentine's Day.

Dining at sunset.

Karaoke DJ Doug Oshiro was at his best for our 15 Craigside Karaoke Sunday Night

One of the supervisors from our Dining Room, Savea, was fabulous as Whitney Houston.

Residents go on trips, and share their experience in our theater.  Here is Gene Kaneshiro (of Columbia Inn fame) making a presentation of his family's visit to Okinawa.
Unlike the real Purgatory, we are allowed out on occasion, this one to Arcadia, our Big Sister (has been around for more than half a century) to view performances by Don Conover and Marilyn Rowell.

Marilyn is 94 years old.  Absolutely fabulous entertainment.  They will be coming to entertaining us at 15 Craigside.

We go out to shop.  This time to the Ala Moana Shopping Center, where we had lunch as Assaggio.
Ordered antipasto and Osso Buco, with beer and red wine.

Lunch for two cost more $100.  Very few customers.  Been here since 2000, but I don't see a promising future for this restaurant here unless they do something.  But what?

We then went to shop at Uniqlo and Nijiya.
Chinese New Year brought celebrations and more.
Chinese New Year luncheon.
Egg drop soup.
Fruits, veggies and appetizers.
Chinese dishes.
My meal.
Drinks.
Cognac into bowl with dim sums with mustard sauce.  Sort of copying my Shanghai Soup Dumpling enhancement.  Cognac also into soup.
Tonight, Karaoke with Mel.  Friends sent us a video of sunset firefall at Yosemite.  Beautiful.

ON THE MATTER OF PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

HOW TO WATCH NETFLIX SHOWS

But first, maybe  President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza Peace Plan is showing some progress .   No one expects the Hamas to accept all of them, but they did agree to release all captives and the act of handing over administration to Palestinian technocrats. So far, in the Gaza Strip, 66,288 have been killed and 169,165 wounded.   On 7October2023, almost two years ago, 1139 were killed in the initial Hamas-led attack. About my topic of the day, I've long been lamenting the overflow of watchable films and series available on Netflix and Prime.  Why expand into the plethora of other streaming options when I can't keep up with what I have, which costs me around $30/month.  And, of course, why venture out to a movie theater to end up watching a film that will cost me around that amount of money, when you add the popcorn, drink, gasoline cost, time it takes to get there and back, and the risk of a car accident or worse.  Oh, also getting infected with ...
