IAM TONGI

Beginning at 8AM EDT (or 2PM in Hawaii), Iam Tongi of Hawaii is heavily favored to be the 2023 American Idol.  Can you bet on this event?

  • Is this legal?

Yes, it is, as long as you place your bet at a legitimate sportsbook. Because most US states don’t have any laws that ban gambling online with offshore operators, there are no laws to break.

US laws do not affect betting sites with TV and music odds and sportsbooks operating outside of the United States, and the US gambling laws in play provide regulations and restrictions directed at gambling business owners and money processors rather than individual bettors. If you can vote on American Idol, you can bet on it, too.

Wagering on American Idol can be done at one of the top online sportsbooks listed on this page. The first item of business is to select the sports betting site that you want to join. Once there, click or tap on the “Join” button, and you’ll be prompted to select a username and password. This page will also ask for other basic information, such as your name and address, which must be accurate. Otherwise, you won't receive your payouts when you win.

  • Since you’ll be making financial transactions with legal sports betting sites, it is very important that you keep your login information confidential. The next prompt you’ll be taken to will ask for your initial deposit. You can skip this step for now and wait to make your deposit when you're ready to place your bets. We actually recommend signing up at multiple sportsbooks so that you can shop for the best odds and cash payouts.

Once those steps have been completed, navigate to the sportsbook section of the site, and locate the entertainment betting section. Betting lines for American Idol 2023 can be found there. All that is left now is to turn in your bet slip and cross your fingers that the odds are in your favor.

The odds for tonight:
  • Iam Tongi             -200    66.7%
  • Megan Danielle   +200    33.3%
  • Colin Stough       +300    25.0%
About Iam Tongi.

  • A year after his father died, Iam's mother signed him up to again audition for American Idol.  He had failed the first time, and was not particularly happy to lose again.  This time he was a hit.
  • He however chose Kahuku, Hawaii as his home town, for that was where his heart was.
  • Soon after he made the top three, he gave a free concert at Turtle Bay, North Shore, where he grew up.  Hawaii's Governor Josh Green and Honolulu's Mayor Rick Blangiardi were there to honor him.  Kahuku High School gave him an honorary degree.

The show itself:
  • Keith Urban is back to mentor.  He judged in seasons 12-15.  This is season 21.
  • Returning to perform from Season #2, winner Ruben Studdard and runner-up Clay Aiken.
    • Clay is now 44 and has had a fascinating career in singing, plus Broadway, almost politician, while gay, child with  Jaymes, sister of David Foster and UNICEF ambassador.
    • Ruben, also 44, got a Grammy nomination, has been on Broadway and is an actor.
  • Also entertaining will be Pitbull, TLC, James Blunt, Kylie Minogue, Lauren Daigle and others.  For his audition, Iam sang Blunt's Monster, about his father dying of kidney failure, same as Iam's.  You must of course remember Blunt's first hit, You're Beautiful.  That was nearly 20 years ago.
  • #'s 4-#12 will be there, and judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel will sing their own hits.

A NEXT COVID SUBVARIANT?

By now most know that the Omicron BA.5 subvariant has become the dominant infectious agent, now accounting for more than 80% of all COVID-19 cases.  Very few are aware that a new one,   BA.4.6,  is sneaking in and steadily rising, now accounting for 13% of sequenced samples .  However, as BA.4.6 has emerged from BA.4, while there is uncertainty, the scientific sense is that the latest bivalent booster targeting BA.4 and BA.5 should also be effective for this next threat. One concern is that Evusheld--the only monoclonal antibody authorized for COVID prevention in immunocompromised individuals--is not effective against BA.4.6.  Here is a  reference  as to what this means.  A series of two injections is involved.  Evusheld was developed by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, and is a t ixagevimab  co-packaged with  cilgavimab . More recently, Los Angeles County reported on  subvariant BA.2.75.2 . which Tony Fauci termed suspicio...

Part 3: OUR NEXT AROUND THE WORLD ODYSSEY

Before I get into my third, and final, part of this cruise series, let me start with some more newsworthy topics.  Thursday was my pandemic day for years.  Thus, every so often I return to bring you up to date on the latest developments.  All these  subvariants  derived from that Omicron variant, and each quickly became dominant, with slightly different symptoms.  One of these will shock you. There has been a significant decline in the lost of taste and smell.  From two-thirds of early patients to now only 10-20% show these symptoms. JN.1, now the dominant subvariant, results in mostly mild symptoms. However, once JN.1 infects some, there seem to be longer-lasting symptoms. Clearly, the latest booster helps prevent contracting Covid. A competing subvariant,  BA.2.86,  also known as Pirola , a month ago made a run, but JN.1 prevailed. No variant in particular, but research has shown that some of you will begin to  lose hair  for...

HONOLULU TO SEATTLE

The story of the day is Hurricane Milton, now a Category 4 at 145 MPH, with a track that has moved further south and the eye projected to make landfall just south of Sarasota.  Good news for Tampa, which is 73 miles north.  Milton will crash into Florida as a Category 4, and is huge, so a lot of problems can still be expected in Tampa Bay with storm surge.  If the eye had crossed into the state just north of Tampa, the damage would have been catastrophic.  Milton is a fast-moving storm, currently at 17 MPH, so as bad as the rainfall will be over Florida, again, a blessing.  The eye will make landfall around 10PM EDT today, and will move into the Atlantic Ocean north of Palm Bay Thursday morning. My first trip to Seattle was in June of 1962 just after I graduated from Stanford University.  Caught a bus. Was called the  Century 21 Exposition .  Also the Seattle World's Fair.  10 million joined me on a six-month run.  My first. These a...
