I'M BACK!!!

I'm back.  However, return in a few hours for an actual new posting. Arrgghh, the horror, the horror.  Boarded the Canadian Railway train and learned that there would be no internet for three days. If I knew that ahead of time, I would not have taken this train journey.  Was this part of the trip worth it?  Well, yes, and you'll learn about what we saw and did over the next couple of days.

I did not realize that overnight trains were so minimal, so limiting, so uncomfortable and so dangerous.  Just walking to lunch is an adventure.  I get close to falling in a safe, walking environment.  On this train, the floor and walls are moving, it's noisy and you need to leave your train and walk to the next in bitter cold.  There has been snow on the ground through the entire 3-day period.

Anyway, I'm now in the Chateau Jasper for one night, and over the next two days in Banff and Lake Louise will still be in hotels, which surely will have internet.  Then the Rocky Mountaineer for two nights, and I just checked.  No internet because they want passengers to disconnect and enjoy the scenery.  Then, we'll be in Vancouver, and will forever try to avoid long train trips.  On the other hand, there is this upcoming December train journey through Vietnam.  I'll see if I can cancel it.

Actually, I had one blog ready to be posted, but had to disconnect to get to the train station.  So if you access my new blog site, you will see this posting of three days ago which was not released.  The title should be NIAGARA FALLS.

Aloha!  See you back later today, the latest today version will be posted in a few hours.

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

DAY 4 IN SEOUL: Most popular Korean Songs from the 1950's to the Present

Korean music was almost totally missing, growing up in Hawaii.  The exception was  Arirang .   Today, BTS and BLACKPINK resonate around the world.  In addition to the 600 year-old  Arirang,  what is the all-time #1?  My favorites are: Baby Shark , released by Pinkfong in 2016. For one, it is the most-viewed You Tube video ever, hitting 7 billion views and surpassing  Despacito  in 2022.   Is now up to 16.47 billion views, with  Despacito  at 9 billion. Top 10 music videos, based on data from   Kworb   and   Wikipedia :  Note that most are nursery songs. "Baby Shark Dance"   – Pinkfong Kids' Songs & Stories (16.47 billion) "Despacito"   – Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee (8.91 billion) "Wheels on the Bus"   – Cocomelon Nursery Rhymes (8.29 billion) "Bath Song"   – Cocomelon Nursery Rhymes (7.31 billion) "Johny Johny Yes Papa"   – LooLoo Kids (7.13 billion) "See You Again"   –...
