First I'm intrigued by the sudden popularity of this blog site. Visitors:
All Time8307449
Today774535
Yesterday882129
This Month2796190
Last Month653676
In other words:
- 8.3 million viewers since this blog began 18 years ago.
- 0.775 million today, which has a few hours to go.
- 0.882 million yesterday.
- 2.8 million this month.
- 0.654 million last month.
- My first blog was on at the end of April 2008, so this site is now a little more than 18 years old.
- 18 divided into 8.3 million gives 1263 visitors per day.
- Yesterday, there were 0.88 million visitors, a record that will be broken today.
- Could well reach 1 million viewers today, which would be 792 times more than my daily average.
- For reasons I can't comprehend, this blog site has gone viral.
- There was a jump in visitors during our recent 50-day trip to the USA and Canada.
- Historically, I do get more viewers on a trip.
- But we returned almost 3 weeks ago, and the exponential viewership began this week.
- My blog postings have not been anything special, so something else is occurring.
- Oh well, I'll just enjoy this acceptance and hope it continues.
So on to my topic of the day. When I watch TV, my priorities are news, sports, special events, favorite programs and films. Not much different from yours. But I now have access to all the streaming channels, except for Apple TV. I pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime, but everything else, like HBO Max, Disney, etc, are free at 15 Craigside, where I live The ESPN+ channel is especially valuable, for it plays almost any pro/NCAA sports event you would want to see.
My favorite summer TV show is America's Got Talent. But, again, I'm just representative of the viewing public because year after year this program has been #1 with 4.5 live viewers/episode. I gave up on American Idol because they sang only recent songs. I did watch in 2023 because Iam Tongi, who was born in Hawaii, became a star and won.
America's Got Talent (AGT} had a recent special.
- I watched earlier this week the best AGT Golden Buzzer performances. If you want to see this, go to Peacock.
- These were the Golden Buzzers for season 20, 2025.
- 10 unforgettable Golden Buzzer auditions.
- So-called legendary Golden Buzzers. Goes on for an hour and a half.
- Season 21 (show started in 2006) begins on Tuesday, June 2 on NBC at 9PM.
- The first few weeks will have auditions for two hours on Tuesday nights.
- Live shows kick-off on August 18 and there will be a second results program the following day.
- Each judge, plus the moderator, will have two Golden Buzzers.
- After the audition weeks, there will be a Judges' Callback program to give acts that impressed the judges a second chance.
- Two-night finale begins on September 22, with the results show on September 23.
- Can you believe that the creator and executive producer for AGT, Simon Cowell, makes $45 million/season???
- That was $187,000 per show or episode in 2025.
- However, peanuts, compared to Taylor Swift, who grosses approximately $14 million per stadium show (that graphic is now incorrect), which provides a net profit of around $5.5 million after paying for costs.
- But you can add an additional $1.5 million/show for merchandise sales.
- Swift operates her touring company without a manager or agent and co-promotes her shows, so she retains a much higher percentage of total revenues than most superstar artists.
- In other words, Swift makes many, many millions per show, while Cowell "only" gets $187,000/TV episode.
- Her Eras tour earned more than $2 billion. Read this article for details. Here is a comparison with other mega-stars, and if you can't read the details, click on that article.
- Here's more.
- Has a net worth of $2 billion. Cowell? $600 million. And, by the way, Jay-Z is worth $2.8 billion. Swift is #2.
- She writes or co-writes all her original releases, and got sole credit for 60 songs. Here are these songs.
- She is 5'10" tall and 36 years old. Cowell is 5'8" and 66.
- And, by the way, she will get married to NFL great Travis Kelce on 3July2026 in New York City.
- But back to AGT, interesting that judge Sophia Vergara makes $10 million/season, while Howie Mandel gets only $1.5 million.
My top America's Got Talent auditions are:
- The most memorable has to be Kodi Lee. He was born blind and autistic. I'll feature him someday soon, for his story is beyond the pale.
- #2 is Jackie Evancho at the age of 10.
- #3 is the performance of janitor Richard Goodall. This was so unexpected. He went on to win the competition in 2024. Goodall with Journey, Don't Stop Believing'. Journey singing that song in 1981.
- #X is William Hung in 2004 singing She Bangs. What is he now doing? Well, he was an engineering student at the the University of California at Berkley at the time of his AGT audition, had only a short musical career, but a severe gambling addiction. However, he successfully rebuilt his life, remarried, is a senior statistical analyst for the Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department, and is a successful motivational speaker.
- #Most Memorable is Jane Marczewski or Nightbirde.
- She had a beauty and style that evoked ultimate hope, with a sadness that was heartbreaking.
- Here is her Golden Buzzer audition. She wrote this song.
- She could have won the whole thing, but had to withdraw.
- Her story is tragic. I'll let you read it. A video. And a longer version.
- And who can forget Britain's Got Talent with Susan Boyle. If you haven't ever seen this, you must.
