Here it is, Monday morning, when I review what happened over the weekend and what is to come this week, and there is almost emptiness.- Second of India heritage to win it.
- Americans had a 10-year winning streak going.
- But who really cares.
- I actually was watching when he sunk a 68.5 -foot putt on the par-3 17th to seal the deal.
- He is one of the quirkiest golfers, always wearing two rain gloves, keeping his irons covered (pros don't do that), uses older clubs and pink "Castle tees to tee his ball to the same height at every drive. Watch this video.
- I asked Google AI, and this is all it would say:

I woke up this morning to something by Fleetwood Mac, so I thought, why not? I knew little of this group until I did some research today, but I do remember all that turmoil, which they converted into art.
- Very few know the early history.
- Let me start with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers in 1963, where Eric Clapton was once guitarist, and was replaced by Peter Green, who had been in Shotgun Express, which featured Rod Stewart as a vocalist. In the Bluesbreakers were Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.
- Green suggested to Fleetwood and McVie to form a new band, and in 1967 created Fleetwood Mac by mashing together the surnames of his rhythm section: drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.
- Attained success with a UK number one single in 1968, Albatross.
- Green left the group in 1970 because of mental health problems, said to come from a bad LSD experience. There were other member problems. But Christine, who was John's wife, joined the band.
- The band split up in late 1973, and a fake Fleetwood Mac appeared. After various legal problems, Fleetwood moved the band to America.
- While Fleetwood in 1974 was scouting studios in Los Angeles, he heard the American folk rock duo, Buckingham Nicks, consisting of guitarist and singer Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks. Mick asked Lindsey to join Fleetwood Mac, and Lindsey agreed, on the condition that Stevie could also.
- The California Sound was already prominent, with the Beach Boys, and Fleetwood Mac shifted from blues to pop rock,
- Released their 1975 album Fleetwood Mac, which topped the Billboard 200 chart.
- Then came their big one, Rumours in 1977 with all the problems buffeting the band: drugs, end of the McVies marriage, termination of the Buckingham/Nicks relationship and Fleetwood was in the midst of divorcing his wife, while carrying on with Nicks.
- And, I'm simplifying.
- Rumours went on to sell 40 million copies worldwide, or eight on the list of best-selling albums.
- A lucrative tour followed.
- In 1979, Fleetwood Mac were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- Later in 1979 came Tusk, a double album, one track featuring the USC Marching Band and Nicks' 6.5-minute opus, Sara.
- Peter Green also returned as a guitarist.
- Sold 4 million copies.
- Inspired an 11-month global tour, where they recorded their first live album, released at the end of 1980.
- This troubled band pushed out three more albums, but began to disintegrate by the late 1980s.
- Buckingham left in 1987, and a couple of years later, Nicks.
- After six years apart, a full-scale reunion occurred for the first inauguration of President Bill Clinton, leading to their 4th U.S. album, The Dance in 1997, the band's 30th anniversary, and 20 years after Rumours.
- In 1998, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
- More departures, but the group released their final album, Say You Will, in 2003.
- Incredibly enough, Fleetwood Mac continued to function, but Buckingham was fired in 2018.
- Christine McVie passed away in 2022 at the age of 79.
- Nicks stated her belief in 2024 that Fleetwood Mac would not continue without her, but Fleetwood said he remained open to reassembling the band.
- Band has sold 120 million records.
- While my comments were limited to the principals, Fleetwood Mac band members came and went, as can be seen here.
For completeness, here is a 41-minute history of Fleetwood Mac.
I'll close with a Netflix movie I watched last night, Remarkably Bright Creatures, featuring the 79-year old Sally Field...and a computer-generated Giant Pacific Octopus, who also spoke. Rotten Tomatoes scores of 82/90. Behind the scenes.
