Yesterday was maybe Donald Trump's last best day, save for that announcement about his New York Hush Money criminal trial, which was confirmed to start on March 25. Today, however, was a lot worse. Several key late-breaking news stories occurred just about when I this morning sat before my computer.
- Just as I'm typing this, Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that Donald Trump must pay $355 million in penalties, is banned from doing business in New York for 3 years and will get an independent monitor and compliance director to oversee Trump's businesses. Each of his two sons, Don Jr. and Eric, were ordered to pay $4 million each, so the judgement is $363 million. To quote:
"Their complete lack of contrition and remorse borders on pathological," Engoron wrote. "Instead, they adopt a 'See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil' posture that the evidence belies."
- The Fani Willis disqualification hearing Atlanta provided two strong witnesses to back Willis.
- Former Georgia Governor Roy Barnes indicated that he was asked by Willis to lead the case against Trump. He said no mostly because of potential threats of violence that could with the job. Makes one wonder if he might now accept the job considering what has happened since then. Looks old, but is only 73.
- Willis' father John Clifford Floyd III confirmed why she kept large amount of cash. He told her: Most Black folks, they hide cash, they keep cash. He is now retired, and was a longtime civil rights activist and defense lawyer. Said he returned to live with Fani and her children and withstood all the threats that came from living there. She left to a safer place. These were difficult times. Sort of the kind of thing that Barnes knew would be coming if he worked for Willis against Trump.
- Vladimir Putin assassinated Aleksei Navalny. Simple as that. Read that article. What this does is place the U.S. House in a precarious spot as it attempts to squash aid to Ukraine, something Trump wants to help out his buddy Vlad.
Oh well, The Chinese New Year holiday continues today.
I was on my way to writing about Fat Tuesday and Mardi Gras, which was this week, but the Trump trials and taradiddles became too newsworthy.-
