KAILUA-KONA TO LIHUE

There is no port large enough to handle cruise ships in Kailua-Kona, so the Pride of American is moored a mile or so out, and you need to ride a tender to shore.

Had an excellent lunch with the usual assortment of drinks.

We chose not to go to shore, for we were here on the Seabourn Odyssey only a few months ago, so here are a couple of photos from that experience.

Went to dinner at Jefferson's, the ship's French restaurant. Had an excellent escargot with endive salad.

The main entré consisted of rack of lamb and Steak Rossini.

The piece of foie gras over the steak was really large, and fabulous.

Closed with ice cream, Irish Coffee and cognac.

But all that led up to my birthday cake. I turned 83 today.

We were supersaturated with food and drinks, so gave the cake to a family sitting close to us. The young boy was thrilled.

Went to see comedian Tom Foss in the Hollywood Theater.

Then went dancing with Jessica Louise on her guitar in Pink's Champagne Bar.

This morning, the first scenes in Nawiliwili Harbor, Kauai.

DAY 1 on the DIAMOND PRINCESS

But first, Sheraton Yokohama Bay highlights of our Sheraton Club eats/drinks and breakfasts. Breakfast stations. Then taxi off to the Diamond Princess. Fall colors. Approaching from the rear of the Diamond Princess. Departure of Diamond Princess from Yokohama, Departure snack of lamb, beef, penne pasta, Johnny Walker Gold and champagne. Leaving Yokohama. We then went to Kai Sushi for dinner, Sushi and sake dinner, Then, off to Fun Dance Class. That followed by karaoke. The night continued into some old time disco. Finally, after midnight, back to our stateroom. Walked 4127 steps today. -

ON THE MATTER OF PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday. Next Monday, June 19, or Juneteenth, is a Federal holiday. However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday. Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery. The first presidential debate of Donald Trump and Joe Biden ended up in a near tie. Both lost. However, it was an unmitigated disaster for Biden, who just might be too old to win this re-election. For Trump, it was a reinforcement of what he does all the the time, lie. There will be significant calls for the Democratic Party to work out "something" to replace Biden as their presidential candidate. Suddenly, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Obama are added to the spotlight. But what can "legally" occur at the August Democratic Convention? The situation is different on the Republican side, as Trump is the Republican Party, and no matter if he gets 4 years at his felony sentencing on July 9, or even if the Supreme Court determines he is not immune next week or later, he will be the presidential candidate.
