TOKYO TO HONOLULU

Woke up on our final Tokyo day to a resplendent Mount Fuji.

Final breakfast in the Tokyo Westin Hotel.
This hotel is a popular place for wedding parties.
Took the Airport Limousine Bus to Narita International Airport.  Over Rainbow Bridge.
You might wonder why that name when the bridge is all white colored.  At nights, lights change the color to rainbow hues, especially during the holiday seasons.
Got to the ANA Business Class Lounge with almost 3 hours to enjoy the food and drinks there.  This is one of the best in the world.

Sat so that we could see the 14th day of the Tokyo Sumo Tournament.  Tomorrow is the final day.  Started with curry rice, Suntory AO whiskey, beer and sake.
Second course of ramen, chicken and lasagna.
On the way out of the lounge, saw these turtles.

Asked Google AI what they were.

The "turtles" are ANA’s (All Nippon Airways) "FLYING HONU" Airbus A380s, featuring special liveries of Hawaiian sea turtles (Honu) to symbolize good luck and prosperity on flights between Tokyo and Honolulu. Each of the three, named Lani (Blue/Sky), Kai (Green/Ocean), and La (Orange/Sunset), represents a different aspect of Hawaii's environment.

Saw the 2025 Big Bold Beautiful Journey, mostly because the title seemed to capture the essence of our two-month trip.  Bad choice of film, for Rotten Tomatoes gave it 36/58 scores.  About right.  Starred Margot Robbie of Barby fame and Colin Farrell

Nuts with Suntory Hakusho Whiskey ($100 to $200 bottle, depending where you find it) and green tea.

With the meal, added some chilled sake:  Yamahai Omachi, which sells for $104/720ml bottle in the U.S.

The meal was beautiful and outstanding.  However, we had eaten so much in the ANA lounge that much of the above was wasted.  Yet, you could still have the following at any time.
So I did order a ramen with shoju on rocks.
Mostly listened to music.
First sight of Hawaii from my seat was Kaena Point on Oahu.
Kahe Power Plant.
West Loch, Pearl Harbor.
Sunrise over Honolulu.
Walked 6901 steps from Japan to Hawaii, 3900 miles from Westin Tokyo Hotel to 15 Craigside.

ON THE MATTER OF PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

THE ENIGMATIC PHIL SPECTOR

The first presidential debate of Donald Trump and Joe Biden ended up in a near tie.  Both lost.  However, it was an unmitigated disaster for Biden, who just might be too old to win this re-election. For Trump, it was a reinforcement of what he does all the the time, lie.   There will be significant calls for the Democratic Party to work out "something" to replace Biden as their presidential candidate.  Suddenly, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Obama are added to the spotlight.  But what can "legally" occur at the August Democratic Convention? The situation is different on the Republican side, as Trump is the Republican Party, and no matter if he gets 4 years at his felony sentencing on July 9, or even if the Supreme Court determines he is not immune next week or later, he will be the presidential candidate. Trump is a damned boastful liar and convicted felon, but that is the only option for Republicans.  His vice-presidential choice now become...

NETFLIX vs DISNEY+ vs AMAZON PRIME

This is now   Day 39 of the government shutdown .  I earlier this week predicted that this should all be over by yesterday.  Well, the Senate is having a rare Saturday session, and the 15th vote on advancing the House-passed continuing resolution could be advanced later in the day,  But Senators are not close to reaching an final agreement. Over the past decade, my streaming was "limited" to Netflix and Amazon Prime.  15 Craigside also has Showtime, but recently made available, for FREE, Disney streaming services:  Hulu, HBO Max and ESPN+, my posting yesterday.  So today I compare the Disney+ family with Netflix and Prime. I now pay for Netflix, something I've been doing for more than 15 years.  Same for Amazon Prime.  I calculate that I've spent around $5000 during this period. Amazon Prime? I buy things through Amazon, and the TV part comes with it. So I'll continue. Netflix? I am charged $18/month. Should I continue, now that I have all th...
