New SIMPLE SOLUTIONS for PLANET EARTH AND HUMANITY:
This blog site derives from the original version of Planet Earth & Humanity, but will be more WE than ME. The coverage will remain similar, but perhaps these postings will seem to come from a parallel universe, or maybe even Purgatory. But truth and reality will prevail, with dashes of whimsy and levity to help make your day.

DAY 14 ON THE RITZ-CARLTON LUMINARA: With a Futuristic Glance at China
Finally, as the Ritz-Carlton Luminara docks in Hong Kong, China, I thought the following documentary videos were worthy of sharing.
Above, the world's largest radio telescope, the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telscope (FAST), also called Sky Eye. Remember the Puerto Rico version which was used in the film, Contact? That was 1000 feet in diameter. FAST is 1640 feet wide.
China just shocked the world with what it’s building. While other nations invest trillions in wars and weapons, China is using that same power to build the future through innovation, construction, and technology. From colossal bridges that connect entire provinces to high-speed railways crossing mountains and undersea tunnels stretching for miles, these are the China megaprojects that are redefining what it means to build a modern nation.
In just two decades, China has become the world’s leading infrastructure powerhouse. The speed and ambition behind these China megaprojects are unlike anything the modern world has ever seen. Each project represents not only an engineering triumph but also a symbol of national vision and technological strength. These monumental efforts show how China is turning intelligence, planning, and coordination into the foundation of global progress.
This documentary uncovers how China’s engineering and construction achievements, from the FAST telescope and Shanghai Tower to the South North Water Transfer Project and the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, are reshaping the future of humanity. These China megaprojects prove that the nation’s real power lies not in competition or conflict, but in its ability to design, build, and innovate at a scale that shocks the world.
Every structure tells a story of determination and technological excellence. Using artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and smart construction systems, China is showing how innovation can transform entire cities. The world’s tallest skyscrapers, longest tunnels, and most advanced railways are now realities that are redefining how people live, travel, and connect.
While the world debates the future, China is already building it. These groundbreaking China mega projects are more than infrastructure achievements; they are symbols of a civilization that values intelligence over destruction and progress over stagnation. Whether in clean energy, transportation, or architecture, China’s engineering continues to shape the twenty first century.
If you want to understand how China builds so quickly, how it organizes projects that seem impossible, and how it continues to shock the world with each new construction, this video will reveal the story behind it all. The future of global development is already being written in steel, glass, and innovation, led by China megaprojects that have redefined human ambition.
Day 14 was an at-sea day. First, lunch at Mistral. I should explain that they don't serve Spaghetti Bolognese on this ship. But at lunch yesterday, mentioned to our waiter that what I really wanted was a simple green salad and that dish. So he said, come back tomorrow and I'll have the chef prepare this for you. Spaghetti Bolognese was served on the Diamond Princess, but only for room service and only if you paid what I thought was an exorbitant cost. So haven't had it since we left Honolulu in November. Thus, salad and Spaghetti Bolognese, with Peroni beer and Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon.
Might have been my best lunch on this trip.
There was than a farewell caviar and champagne reception at 5:30.
Ashleigh September on the piano.
For our final dinner, we went back to Haesu. Started with sashimi and a hamachi temaki with cold sake.
Pho.
Two desserts with a glass of Sauternes.
Walked 1011 steps.
We tomorrow end our Ritz-Carlton Luminara cruise in Hong Kong.
Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday. Next Monday, June 19, or Juneteenth, is a Federal holiday. However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday. Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery. Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter: Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are 11 paid Fede...
The first presidential debate of Donald Trump and Joe Biden ended up in a near tie. Both lost. However, it was an unmitigated disaster for Biden, who just might be too old to win this re-election. For Trump, it was a reinforcement of what he does all the the time, lie. There will be significant calls for the Democratic Party to work out "something" to replace Biden as their presidential candidate. Suddenly, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Obama are added to the spotlight. But what can "legally" occur at the August Democratic Convention? The situation is different on the Republican side, as Trump is the Republican Party, and no matter if he gets 4 years at his felony sentencing on July 9, or even if the Supreme Court determines he is not immune next week or later, he will be the presidential candidate. Trump is a damned boastful liar and convicted felon, but that is the only option for Republicans. His vice-presidential choice now become...
From Time magazine, I begin with a slew of Trump topics. You can read the details. The unpopular Big Beautiful Bill is now in the House . The only truly effective anti-Trump person: Elon Musk. The Trump Gaza ceasefire proposal . The July 4th Free American Anti-Trump Protest planned across the USA . This site began as a renewable energy and environment blog, and has evolved to just about any subject. I try to keep Wednesdays for sci-tech, with perhaps a monthly focus on energy. More recently, I've drawn from the Energy Matters info sent to me by the American Energy Society. I'm inserting direct quotes this time to eliminate my predilections for more credibility. This service starts with some broad topics. - Fossil fuels: Helium is locked in a supply crunch, and prices are surging. - Renewables: Congress will probably pass new renewable fuel standards for 2026 and 2027. - Policy: President Trump is now focused on Califor...
