DIAMOND PRINCESS 2: Days 8 and 9

The Diamond Princess had to bypass Nha Trang because of super-high winds.  We were thus at sea for two more days and hopefully will arrive in Cai Lan (Halong Bay) on Day 11.  Day 12 will include a scenic cruise to Chan May (Danang Beach, or China Beach) through Halong Bay.

Our Day 8 began with a different kind of lunch for me.  I actually skipped the usual ramen, and had beef stew over rice and a salad, with a Kirin Lager.

Walked by the ice cream counter and got a matcha cone,
Stayed for some entertainment,

Took my usual nap, then down for dinner in Pacfic Moon,  The menu

Ordered Steamed Green Asparagus warm bacon jerez vinegar dressing, Skinniest asparagus I've ever seen. Also Mexican Albongas Soup.  Duckhorn Chardonnay.
Twice-cooked port in szechuan saue,
After dinner menus,

Had a Cherries Jubilee with a Monte Chocso.  What is that?  See above After Dinner Beverages menu.

Next, the Princess Theater with Monique Montez.

Then, drinks in the Wheelhouse Bar.
Finally, Crooners Bar.

Walked 5710 steps today.

Day 9 was similar to Day 8.  My second day of lunch with no ramen.  My feet were getting swollen, so I thought that the high sodium content of the ramen was the cause,  Seems to be getting better, but I'll continue this sacrifice for a couple of days more to see if I've correctly identified the problem,

Nap, then walk around the inside of the ship, for the doors were locked to get out.  Too windy.  Pre-dinner cocktail of Johnny Walker Gold on rocks in the Wheelhouse Bar.  The singing couple was annoyance, so we moved to extreme other end of the room.
Took a video of people dancing in the Grand Plaza.
Decided to have dinner at Sushi Kai.  Hardly anyone was there,  Our surmisal is that Premier Package passengers get almost everything on the menu for free, while regular passengers pay for everything they consume.
The menu.
Had the Kaisen Don with sashimi on the side.  The maguro was mushy.  Not my best meal.  Ate it with hot sake and Sapporo Beer.
We were too early for the Princess Theater show, so had a drink in the Wheelhouse Bar.
Next to the Princess Theater for a splendid performance of Bravo.  What is that?  Watch these video clips.
Then karaoke,
Finished evening in the Crooners Bar, where fortuitous good fortune brought the bartender and Lexi, our server, to entertain,

Walked 4344 steps today,
Tomorrow we arrive into Cai Lan Port, where tours start to the picturesque Halong Bay.

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

THE ENIGMATIC PHIL SPECTOR

The first presidential debate of Donald Trump and Joe Biden ended up in a near tie.  Both lost.  However, it was an unmitigated disaster for Biden, who just might be too old to win this re-election. For Trump, it was a reinforcement of what he does all the the time, lie.   There will be significant calls for the Democratic Party to work out "something" to replace Biden as their presidential candidate.  Suddenly, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Obama are added to the spotlight.  But what can "legally" occur at the August Democratic Convention? The situation is different on the Republican side, as Trump is the Republican Party, and no matter if he gets 4 years at his felony sentencing on July 9, or even if the Supreme Court determines he is not immune next week or later, he will be the presidential candidate. Trump is a damned boastful liar and convicted felon, but that is the only option for Republicans.  His vice-presidential choice now become...
