THE CRUISE TO THE TOTAL ECLIPSE CONTINUES

Nothing much has changed since my reportage yesterday of the Iran, Ukraine and Gaza Strip Wars, the uncontrolled wildfire in British Columbia and weather.

To continue our Azamara Journey cruise, I last stopped after lunch on Day 1. The good news is that all is well on this ship.  Dinner was okay, late night dancing fine and I had a terrific night of great sleep.

Dinner was at the Windows Cafe buffet, and we coincidentally sat at the same table as lunch.  A whole section of sushi, with a Heineken and chardonnay.

Went for after dinner drinks in The Den, where Jose was on the keys,  Then onto the show for the evening in the Cabaret Lounge, where Vinyl Records was the feature.

The time was around 11PM, and the only place open was the Living Room for late night dancing.  Shore Thing, a band from the Philippines played loud and fine.  Like the music.  Did some dancing.

Chatted with their leader, and he promised to play Anak tomorrow night.  I featured this song in one of my postings a few years ago:

My song #4 is Freddie Aguilar's Anak.  Aguilar was studying to be an electrical engineer when he left home at the age of 18 to pursue an entertainment career.  After five years of gambling and travails, in 1978 he wrote his first song, Anak (a more recent version) in remorse and apology to his parents.  It is the best selling Filipino song in history and reached #1 in Japan.  Billboard reported that the song was the #2 hit for the world in the 1980's.

In 2013, when he was 60, his third wife was 16 year old  Jovie Gatdula Albao.  He passed away last year at the age of 72.

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

DAY 4 IN SEOUL: Most popular Korean Songs from the 1950's to the Present

Korean music was almost totally missing, growing up in Hawaii.  The exception was  Arirang .   Today, BTS and BLACKPINK resonate around the world.  In addition to the 600 year-old  Arirang,  what is the all-time #1?  My favorites are: Baby Shark , released by Pinkfong in 2016. For one, it is the most-viewed You Tube video ever, hitting 7 billion views and surpassing  Despacito  in 2022.   Is now up to 16.47 billion views, with  Despacito  at 9 billion. Top 10 music videos, based on data from   Kworb   and   Wikipedia :  Note that most are nursery songs. "Baby Shark Dance"   – Pinkfong Kids' Songs & Stories (16.47 billion) "Despacito"   – Luis Fonsi ft. Daddy Yankee (8.91 billion) "Wheels on the Bus"   – Cocomelon Nursery Rhymes (8.29 billion) "Bath Song"   – Cocomelon Nursery Rhymes (7.31 billion) "Johny Johny Yes Papa"   – LooLoo Kids (7.13 billion) "See You Again"   –...
