PARAMOUNT PLUS

  • The Georgia election interference case against President Trump just appointed a new prosector for that case.
  • Peter Skandalakis, executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia, headed a nonpartisan state agency to select one, and he was chosen.
  • He replaces Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
  • As you know federal pardons don't apply to state crimes.
  • The judge remains the same, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee.
  • Remember this?

A Fulton County grand jury  indicted Trump in 2023 when he was out of office along with 18 others who allegedly formed a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, which Trump narrowly lost to President Joe Biden.

Following the loss, Trump had famously called Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and asked him to “find” the missing votes he would have needed to win. The alleged scheme also involved plans to submit a bogus slate of electors to falsely certify that Trump had won the election, a harassment campaign against Fulton County poll workers and a voting systems breach in Coffee County.

  • As president, Donald Trump seems safe for now from prosecution,
  • However, 14 other defendants like Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows are liable.
Now into the topic of the day, Paramount+, a streaming channel.  After adding HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu and ESPN, I noticed that I could also get Paramount+ for free.  I had the IT specialist at 15 Craigside install those new channels, but did not want to bother him again, so I tried to do it myself, and succeeded.
Paramount+ was launched in 2014 by CBS.
  • In 2017 had 1.5 million subscribers.
  • Rebranded in 2021 as Paramount+.
  • Draws primarily from the libraries of CBS, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, the Smithsonian Channel, Showtime and Paramount Pictures.  Also original series, films, and sports, linked to CBS.
  • In August of 2025, announced the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.  Slew of other agreements, many international, in soccer, rugby and other sports.

I particularly wanted to have Paramount+ accessible because Liam Neeson's The Naked Gun movie was being shown, for free.  Rotten Tomatoes had given it excellent 88/73 scores.  Unfortunately, I would have given it a score below 73, for the jokes were jejune and timing terrible.  The Naked Gun in 1988 with Leslie Nielsen, George Kennedy, Priscilla Presley and O. J. Simpson, also got an 88 reviewers' score.  However, this parody franchise began in 1982 with a series, Police Squad!, which scored 91/96.  I won't say anything more about this Liam Neeson version, but comedy, apparently is a challenge for him.

Cable News network MSNBC will tomorrow rebrand as MS NOW as a corporate spinoff from parent company Comcast (NBCUniversal).
  • Also gone will be the NBC peacock logo.
  • MS NOW will be MSource of News, Opinion, and the World.
  • MSNBC will still exist, but as Versant, a media company.  So there will not be a Versant channel, as such, for they will parent over CNB, USA, E!, Syfy, Oxygen and the Golf Channel.
  • MSNBC was launched in 1996 as a liberal-leaning network that served as home to Rachel Maddow,  Chris Matthews, the the Morning Joe crew and others.  MSNBC came from Microsoft and NBC.  The new MS NOW will continue with most of its newscasters.

ON THE MATTER OF PUBLIC HOLIDAYS

Hawaii today celebrates King Kamehameha the First Day as a public holiday.  Next Monday, June 19, or  Juneteenth,  is a Federal holiday.  However, 22 states, including Hawaii, do not recognize this as a public holiday.  Four of these will begin to honor this day next year, not Hawaii.  Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery.  Here are the Hawaii holidays, and note three that only we have: New Year’s Day: 1st day in January Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: 3rd Monday in January Presidents’ Day: 3rd Monday in February Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Day: 26th day in March Good Friday: Friday before Easter Easter:   Calculating Easter Memorial Day: Last Monday in May King Kamehameha I Day: 11th day in June Independence Day: 4th day in July Statehood Day: 3rd Friday in August Labor Day: 1st Monday in September Veterans’ Day: 11th day in November Thanksgiving Day: 4th Thursday in November Christmas: 25th day in December There are  11 paid Fede...

THE ENIGMATIC PHIL SPECTOR

The first presidential debate of Donald Trump and Joe Biden ended up in a near tie.  Both lost.  However, it was an unmitigated disaster for Biden, who just might be too old to win this re-election. For Trump, it was a reinforcement of what he does all the the time, lie.   There will be significant calls for the Democratic Party to work out "something" to replace Biden as their presidential candidate.  Suddenly, Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Obama are added to the spotlight.  But what can "legally" occur at the August Democratic Convention? The situation is different on the Republican side, as Trump is the Republican Party, and no matter if he gets 4 years at his felony sentencing on July 9, or even if the Supreme Court determines he is not immune next week or later, he will be the presidential candidate. Trump is a damned boastful liar and convicted felon, but that is the only option for Republicans.  His vice-presidential choice now become...

THE NEXT TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE

There are 4 types of solar eclipse. Total  Partial  Annular  Hybrid  About the above graphic. On the left is a total solar eclipse. In middle is an annular solar eclipse. A hybrid eclipse appears as either a total or an annular eclipse depending on the observers location.  These only occur once in a decade. A partial eclipse is to the right. A total solar eclipse occurs about every 18 months.  However a specific location will see a total eclipse only once every 375 years.  So if you recently saw one, you'll need to travel to see another.   My wife was born on July 11.  She found out that there would be total eclipse over her Big Island on that day in 1991, so off we flew to Kailua-Kona and stayed at the King Kamehameha Hotel.  Turned out that if we had just watched from the hotel beach, we would have had the best view.  But we had a friend who lived high up on Mauna Loa, so off we went to join him.   But it was so clo...
