A COMING TRUMP DICTATORSHIP?

But first, the House passed President Donald Trump's Big, Beautiful Bill by one vote.  The Senate will debate and adjust the details, and weeks from now, something to lower taxes for the rich and lower lifestyles for the poor will ultimately pass.  Republicans do run the White House, Congress, country and maybe world.   Democrats are powerless to do much, and worse, there is nothing they can do to prevent Donald Trump from becoming a dictator, the story of this posting today.

The World Health Organization (WHO) this week adopted a Pandemic Agreement to make the world more equitable and safer from future pandemics.

  • It took three years to get to this stage.
  • Member nations will share information about the coming pandemic, and will provide 20% of vaccines to WHO.  The logic is that the entire world will need to prevent the advance of virus.
  • It is no great surprise that the USA is not participating.  We are great, getting greater, and don't need to share anything with anyone.
  • The U.S., further, plans to withdraw from WHO.  This will occur on 1January2026.

Is this attitude shared by most Americans?  No.  President Donald Trump for sure, and certainly Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy feel that way.  Republicans today tend to mistrust science and want to focus on our country getting greater.  Anyone and entity in the way will be overrun or ignored.  A KFF Tracking poll earlier this year revealed the following.

A Gallup poll shows how Republicans have changed in regards to childhood vaccinations.
Pew poll showed the following.
According to The Guardian, a British newspaper:

Trump is creating a selfish, miserable world. Here’s what we can do.

  • The American president has started trade wars, crippled NATO, dismantled USAID and humiliated Ukraine protecting democracy, while praising the aggressor, Russia.
  •  The clearest example is USAID: if the richest, most powerful country in the world thinks it’s a waste to give a tiny fraction of its income to the poorest, worst off people in the world, you must be a real sucker if you care for others.
  • In 2012 the U.S. ranked 11th in the World Happiness Report.  This year it was 24th.
  • So what is the solution?
    • Trumpism is built on pettiness and self-interest, so resisting means embodying the opposite virtues. To paraphrase a much better president: do not ask what the world can do for your happiness – ask what you can do for the happiness of the world. You commit yourself to making the biggest difference you can – even when others do not.
    • You can read this article for more.  I think the author is a dreamer.
All of what Trump has done seems un-American.  This is not where we have been as the most powerful country in the world since World War II.  And there is a greater fear.  Too many are more and more warning that the USA is heading towards a dictatorship.  The following publications said so just during the month we were away on our recent trip:
  • On 14May2025, Scientific American published an opinion that we are heading towards a dictatorship.
  • On 29August2025, Axios reported that most Americans see Trump as a "dangerous dictator."
  • On 22April2025, NPR indicated hundreds of scholars say U.S. is swiftly heading toward authoritarianism.
What exactly will Trump need to do to become a dictator?  Almost nothing, literally.  Once he defies a landmark Supreme Court decision, he automatically becomes one.  Neither that court or any other has the enforcement power to do anything.  Trump not only controls the Department of Justice, but, more importantly, the Department of Defense.

So you say, not to worry, for the mid-term election will show the usual pendulum swing when a party becomes unpopular, and Congress will revert back to Democratic control.  Surely, you're fantasizing.  President Trump can orchestrate serious protests in the summer months preceding those elections, and postpone the vote to a later day that never comes.

Well, then the 7November2028 presidential election?  He can't run again.  Franklin D. Roosevelt did for a third term.  And won.  Again a fourth time.  But Congress did step in and passed the 22nd amendment limiting presidents to two terms.  But need I remind you that you might not vote in any presidential election again?  7November2028 can simply be cancelled.

HONOLULU TO SEATTLE

The story of the day is Hurricane Milton, now a Category 4 at 145 MPH, with a track that has moved further south and the eye projected to make landfall just south of Sarasota.  Good news for Tampa, which is 73 miles north.  Milton will crash into Florida as a Category 4, and is huge, so a lot of problems can still be expected in Tampa Bay with storm surge.  If the eye had crossed into the state just north of Tampa, the damage would have been catastrophic.  Milton is a fast-moving storm, currently at 17 MPH, so as bad as the rainfall will be over Florida, again, a blessing.  The eye will make landfall around 10PM EDT today, and will move into the Atlantic Ocean north of Palm Bay Thursday morning. My first trip to Seattle was in June of 1962 just after I graduated from Stanford University.  Caught a bus. Was called the  Century 21 Exposition .  Also the Seattle World's Fair.  10 million joined me on a six-month run.  My first. These a...

A NEXT COVID SUBVARIANT?

By now most know that the Omicron BA.5 subvariant has become the dominant infectious agent, now accounting for more than 80% of all COVID-19 cases.  Very few are aware that a new one,   BA.4.6,  is sneaking in and steadily rising, now accounting for 13% of sequenced samples .  However, as BA.4.6 has emerged from BA.4, while there is uncertainty, the scientific sense is that the latest bivalent booster targeting BA.4 and BA.5 should also be effective for this next threat. One concern is that Evusheld--the only monoclonal antibody authorized for COVID prevention in immunocompromised individuals--is not effective against BA.4.6.  Here is a  reference  as to what this means.  A series of two injections is involved.  Evusheld was developed by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, and is a t ixagevimab  co-packaged with  cilgavimab . More recently, Los Angeles County reported on  subvariant BA.2.75.2 . which Tony Fauci termed suspicio...

IS FLORIDA AGAIN THREATENED BY A MEGA TSUNAMI FROM LA PALMA?

From the morning  New York Times : Here is a graph comparing average daily COVID-19 deaths/100,000 people, and the USA is doing something really wrong: The difference between our country and Europe is that we have flubbed the availability of cheap and ubiquitous at-home RAPID testing.  They have covered this base. There are two obvious problems: The FDA is much too bureaucratic about quickly approving anything related to this pandemic, including testing. We seem stuck with the test that takes one to several days to get your result. The good news is that the Biden administration has finally realized this problem and through executive order hope to soon flood the market with take home testing that at first will be subsidized to make it affordable. Now, on to getting everyone vaccinated, especially 5-11 years olds ( and we are close to getting to making this happen ), the undereducated and Republicans.  What to do about the latter two? The other concern is whether we a...
