The Kilauea summit caldera, within Halemaumau Crater, began erupting at 2:30AM this morning. Volcanic fountains up to 262 feet, with gas emissions now at 8,000 feet levels. How long will this continue? Not sure, but if you had any urge to see Hawaii at Christmas-time, plus view an eruption, why not now, as the weather throughout the state is fabulous. Watch this video.
Kilauea eruptions have kept this blog site going. Read my posting of 30April2018 which was titled
MY FINAL DAILY BLOG.
Then on 3May2018 I provided a grand perspective of this 10-year old blog site. The very next day, Kilauea Volcano erupted, and I posted on PUNA AGAIN BECOMES THE MOST DANGEROUS SPOT ON EARTH. I said:
It was on 3January1983 that Kilauea Volcano first erupted. I just happened to be golfing at the Volcano Golf Course that day, when, on the tenth hole we felt the ground shudder:
Soon thereafter, we saw fountains of lava a couple of hundred yards high only a few hundred yards from where we stood. This was the beginning of the current Kilauea eruption, which has now continuously gone on for three decades PLUS FIVE YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS.
Thus, this eruption has now been ongoing for 35 years and four months.
In the 1970's I suffered from numerous mosquito bites while I helped explore for and succeed in tapping geothermal energy in Puna:
While I was the reservoir engineer in the mid-1970's with UH-Hilo Professor Bill Chen on HGP-A, one of the only examples of anything renewable in Hawaii that actually worked the first time, my interest was more on the total product potential, as I helped get started the Community Geothermal Technology Program, also known as Noi'i O Puna (NOP), or the geothermal equivalent of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority for OTEC on the other side of the island. In other words, there would have been no blog today had Kilauea Volcano remained dormant. Well, my life has changed since 2018, and I've continued this site mostly because I'm doing it for myself. Glad to to see 1000 or so viewers each day actually reading my daily journal, but, Kilauea eruption or not, I will continue on, as I've been doing now for more than 16 years, until I someday can't.
I've been alerting you to that Eddie invitational at Waimea Bay on Oahu, said to be the Super Bowl of Surfing.
The winner was Landon McNamara, who won $50,000 and 350,000 Hawaiian Airline miles, the chief sponsor of the event. McNamara also won more for surfing the best wave of the day, gaining a perfect 50 points.
See this achievement!Let's see what incoming President Donald Trump does about this. According to the New York Times this morning, the government of China has been erecting villages along contested borderlands, paying people to move there. In addition, the paper provided a map of 170,000 women seeking an abortion or to obtain pills in 2023.
Nissan and Honda have agreed to merge, making it the third largest automaker in the world, next to Toyota and Volkswagen. Mitsubishi might also join. Where is the USA? #3 is South Korea's Hyundai/Kia. Honda at $40 billion is four times larger than Nissan, and will have the majority on the new company's board. The stock value of all three Japanese firms rose on this announcement.
On the national front, Donald Trump's former Attorney General pick (he knew this, and still went ahead with the nomination) Matt Gaetz was shown to be an evil person by the just released U.S. House ethics report.
- 37-page report.
- Paid a 17-year old for sex in 2017. She had just finished her junior year in high school.
- Paid more than $90,000 to 12 different women for sexual activity and/or drug use.
- Gaetz denied any allegations.
- After he was dropped as the AG candidate, Trump ascertained for him to host a weeknight show on right-wing outlet One American News.
Can't close my posting with Matt Gaetz. The cold opening for Saturday Night Live this weekend was
Crime Stories with Nancy Grace. Who is she? Looked her up on
Wikipedia, and found out she is a real lawyer, who got somewhat famous as a broadcaster, and SNL has in the past parodied her every so often. The first time with
Amy Poehler, dealing with O.J. Simpson and other crimes.
