WHAT SERIES SHOULD YOU WATCH ON NETFLIX AND PRIME?

I began to lose track of which season and episode I was watching on Netflix and Prime series, so I developed a tracking system on my computer.  I now know which episode in what season to watch any series.  I am now officially following 57 different series on Netflix and 55 on Prime.  Yes, you read that right...more than 100.  If I were to binge-watch all, it would take me a couple of months of constant viewing.  Of course, I have recently only focused on a few of the very best, so I have not looked at most of them at all during the past year and two.

I will soon more involve the following series:

    • Humans
, a Swedish production with William Hurt got 100% in Season 3.  He passed away last year.
    • Trapped, from Iceland, scored 100/96, and I saw episode 1, but was not impressed.
    • Fleabag has 2 Seasons with overall 100/93 scores.
  • Netflix series are alway free and available.
    • Many of the them I am currently watching are from South Korea and are not rated by Rotten Tomatoes.  Here are the best, some rated.
    • Extraordinary Attorney Woo,
actually given 100/91 scores by RT.  Just completed episode 16, the last one, last night. Each is a little more than an hour long.  Worthy of those scores.  Here is an article about why it earned 100%.  She's an autistic savant, more specifically, with Asperger's Syndrome, and you'll fall in love with her.
    • Thirty Nine
/86, about three friends. Okay, but not as good as...
    •  Something in the Rain/86, a love story, also starring Son Ye-Jin.  Stand by Your Man will become one of your favorite songs.
    • Crash Landing on You, /98, another Son Ye-Jin success.  10 episodes. Well worth your time.
      • Also completed Vincenzo/94, about a Korean who grew up in Italy, became a consigliere for the Mafia, and returns home.  Really entertaining, but there are 20 episodes and they are all around an hour long...some up to 84 minutes.  Apprently, there will be a season 2.
      • Squid Game
/95, Korean survival game.  Only watched three episodes, and will soon return.  There will be a season 2.
      • One Spring Night, /100, 16 episodes, each 70 minutes long.   Another love story, the male in Something in the Rain.  Haven't had time to start this series.
      • Home Town Ch-Cha-Cha, /100, opposites meet in a love story, 16 episodes, each 70 minutes long.  Same.
      • Navillera, /100 ballerino, 10 episodes.

      • Law School, /100, 10 episodes.
      • The Uncanny Counter, /96, 10 episodes, sci-fi.
    • Among the others.
      • Breaking Bad, has been around for awhile in five seasons, with a couple earning 100% from RT.
      • Better Call Saul, 98/96, with Season 6 awaiting play.  Saw all earlier seasons and will definitely watch the final one.  Don't know why, because the story is about an almost lovable louche committing minor immoral swindles.  Bob Odenkirk is priceless, here with his life partner, played by Kim Wexler.  In the show, got his law degree from the fictitious University of American Samoa.  This is a prequel/sequel to Breaking Bad.  Has won more than 100 awards.
      • Makanai, 92/93, about geisha life in Kyoto for two newcomers. 9 episodes.
      • Kleo, 100/62, from Germany, a spy story after the Fall of the Berlin Wall. 8 episodes.
      • Paper Girls, 91/90, about time travel. 8 episodes.
      • There are several worthy food series:

        • Samurai Gourmet, /98, 13 episodes, 30 min.  I've watched about half of them.

  • #41  The Kominsky Method  93...saw one episode, featuring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, who passed away...will return.

So with all those choices above, what should you watch.? Here is one example of me wavering.

I'll end with Prime's Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan now into season 3, but has not scored super well on Rotten Tomatoes to gain my attention.  Season 1 got a so-so 75 reviewer's score.  However, the audience gave it an 88.  Season 2 plummeted to 67/58, so that was easy to avoid.  Season 3 is up to 85/78, somewhat enticing me to watch.  Each season has 8 episodes, running from 45 minutes to a little more than an hour, so where should I start?  Doing the multiplication, that would mean almost 24 hours if I start at the beginning.  And there will be a Season 4, so make that 32 hours. There must be a dozen Korean/Spanish/other series hovering near or at 100, so I'm already spreading myself too thin.

Jack Ryan premiered on 31August2018 on Amazon Prime Video, starring John Krasinski.  For those who remember Ryan, there have been films starring Alex Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.  There are now three seasons, with a fourth to come as the last.  Ryan is heroic, but vulnerable.  Michael Pena will appear in Season 4 as Ding Chavez, another Clancy hero, to become Rainbow Six, a spin-off.

To summarize:

  • Season 1 has Dr. Ryan as a low-level CIA analyst who is wrenched from the security of his desk job into the field to ferret out dubious bank transfers carried out by a rising Islamic extremist group named Suleiman.
  • Season 2 finds him in the middle of political warfare in corrupt Venezuela.
  • Season 3, said to be the best, has Jack investigating a plot to recreate the former Soviet Union by detonating an untraceable nuclear bomb in a former Soviet territory.
  • Season 4, when Abbie Cornish as Jack's romantic interest Cathy Mueller returns, where Ryan saves the world again.  Pena also joins the full-time cast.
  • You can read all the details in Wikipedia.
All three seasons are now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, so you can immediately binge watch.  Me, I'm still thinking about that.

I was supposed to shop today for a variety of items.  However....guess what?

A NEXT COVID SUBVARIANT?

By now most know that the Omicron BA.5 subvariant has become the dominant infectious agent, now accounting for more than 80% of all COVID-19 cases.  Very few are aware that a new one,   BA.4.6,  is sneaking in and steadily rising, now accounting for 13% of sequenced samples .  However, as BA.4.6 has emerged from BA.4, while there is uncertainty, the scientific sense is that the latest bivalent booster targeting BA.4 and BA.5 should also be effective for this next threat. One concern is that Evusheld--the only monoclonal antibody authorized for COVID prevention in immunocompromised individuals--is not effective against BA.4.6.  Here is a  reference  as to what this means.  A series of two injections is involved.  Evusheld was developed by British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, and is a t ixagevimab  co-packaged with  cilgavimab . More recently, Los Angeles County reported on  subvariant BA.2.75.2 . which Tony Fauci termed suspicious and troublesome.  This strain has also been spreading in

Part 3: OUR NEXT AROUND THE WORLD ODYSSEY

Before I get into my third, and final, part of this cruise series, let me start with some more newsworthy topics.  Thursday was my pandemic day for years.  Thus, every so often I return to bring you up to date on the latest developments.  All these  subvariants  derived from that Omicron variant, and each quickly became dominant, with slightly different symptoms.  One of these will shock you. There has been a significant decline in the lost of taste and smell.  From two-thirds of early patients to now only 10-20% show these symptoms. JN.1, now the dominant subvariant, results in mostly mild symptoms. However, once JN.1 infects some, there seem to be longer-lasting symptoms. Clearly, the latest booster helps prevent contracting Covid. A competing subvariant,  BA.2.86,  also known as Pirola , a month ago made a run, but JN.1 prevailed. No variant in particular, but research has shown that some of you will begin to  lose hair  for several months.  This is caused by stress more than anythi

HONOLULU TO SEATTLE

The story of the day is Hurricane Milton, now a Category 4 at 145 MPH, with a track that has moved further south and the eye projected to make landfall just south of Sarasota.  Good news for Tampa, which is 73 miles north.  Milton will crash into Florida as a Category 4, and is huge, so a lot of problems can still be expected in Tampa Bay with storm surge.  If the eye had crossed into the state just north of Tampa, the damage would have been catastrophic.  Milton is a fast-moving storm, currently at 17 MPH, so as bad as the rainfall will be over Florida, again, a blessing.  The eye will make landfall around 10PM EDT today, and will move into the Atlantic Ocean north of Palm Bay Thursday morning. My first trip to Seattle was in June of 1962 just after I graduated from Stanford University.  Caught a bus. Was called the  Century 21 Exposition .  Also the Seattle World's Fair.  10 million joined me on a six-month run.  My first. These are held every five years, and there have only been
