Yesterday I posted on the complete list of my 100 favorite songs. This was not an easy thing to do and took a lot time. In another moment of weakness I thought, why not:
- 100 Most Important Events for Humanity and Planet Earth (I'll try not to use my views, but that of some universal consensus)
- My 100 Greatest Films of All Time (note, like in the songs, this will be my list)
- I should be able to come up with more, like books, poems (nah, probably not), people, ideas, etc. It all will depend on how long I continue this blog site...or live.
Some early speculation of what should be #1 when I get there some time later this year. Clearly, we would not be here were it not for Genesis or the Big Bang, so one or the other will most probably be the one most important event for Humanity and Planet Earth. Religion or science does not matter for this crucial event. Something happened that made us.
Of course, there are other religions, like the oldest one, Hindu, which goes back 4000 years. It is a composite of various religious ideas, but so is The Bible.
Buddhism is difficult to interpret because there are so many unanswerable questions. From their point of view, it is possible that there was no beginning, with all being eternal. Thus, an argument can be made that, even for the Big Bang, there had to be something to have caused it, so, maybe, there was no beginning.
Just thinking ahead about some of the more significant events, is the formation of Earth more important than the beginning of life? Us, Homo sapiens, are crucial, so where does Mitochondrial Eve fit into the list? Is this scientific version of the first female an equivalent of the Christian Eve? In Hindu, Brahma, who created their Universe, made a female deity, Shatarupa. Buddhism of course complicates it all with questions that really can't be answered.
But I have a lot of time to determine the above and where they fit into the Top 100. It should be interesting to contemplate what might be #100. This will start it all, probably some time this month.
To close, on New Year's Day I had only two meals. First I enjoyed my latest O-zoni. Then later in the day, I had leftovers. Essentially, the same O-zoni with soba, and a few drinks:
