Well, I survived Barbenheimer, and was underwhelmed by Barbie and consumed by Oppenheimer. Sure, B got twice the box office revenues of O, but that is because B is for children with grandparents, and O was R-rated, with actual nudity. The two, combined, earned more than half a billion worldwide dollars in one weekend, and both were actually highly rated by reviewers. The bizarre attraction is that they are two films that are about as opposite as you can get, making it a once in a decade event.
- Margot Robbie was the star, and she in the past got two nominations, in 2018 for I, Tonya as Best Actress, and in 2020 as Best Supporting Actress for Bombshell. I don't think this kind of movie can be taken seriously, so she probably will miss the final cut of five actresses.
- Ryan Goslin, however, might slip into the top 5 for Best Supporting Actor. He too has had two nominations, Best Actor in 2007 for Half Nelson and again in 2017 for La La Land. It's easier sneaking into a supporting slot.
- America Ferrera is better positioned for Best Supporting Actress. She has one stunning speech that is memorable, sort of that Oscar moment.
- They say the soundtrack is for this generation, as American Grafitti, Dirty Dancing and Saturday Night Fever was for my three phases of life. B had 17 original songs. Gotta be something here, maybe I'm Just Ken by Gosling. Very few nominations in the past actually became best sellers, so perhaps.
- When you toss in craft categories, say costume and production design, a lot here.
- Christopher Nolan was nominated in 2017 for Dunkirk, and four other times for lower categories. Best Film? Best Director? Should get both nominations, but winning? Maybe, and even perhaps both.
- However, the film is more about Robert Oppenheimer than anything else. Cillian Murphy I predict will win the Oscar for Best Actor. His dazzling blue eyes was as important as his commanding performance, and the real Oppie did have those eyes.
- Robert Downey Jr should be nominated for playing Lewis Strauss, the villain in the movie.
- The women in the film were not all that important. I don't think Emily Blunt should be in the top five for Best Supporting Actress. However, the success of this film might just raise her up there.
- There is an award for Best Original Score, which can be a mix. O was largely written by Ludwig Goransson, 24 separate pieces for a total of 94 minutes and 42 seconds. Again, just the status of the film could be the determining factor.
- #10 was Ben Lapidus, who performed terribly with Parmesan Cheese. Got all four Xs before he finished. But something about the reaction of the audience. The judges all reversed their Xs, and passed him through.
- #5 was Archie Williams. He was wrongly imprisoned 36 years for murder, and spent most of this time at notorious Angola in Louisiana. The Innocence Project stepped in, and eventually, someone named Stephen Forbes was linked to this crime. Williams’ AGT impact even moved Judge Cowell to become an ambassador for The Innocence Project. In a statement with the organization, Cowell called Williams’ performance “probably the single most important one in the history of America’s Got Talent.”
- #1, of course, was Susan Boyle. If you haven't ever seen this audition, this should be a must.
