First, some news of the day:
- Liz Truss is the new Boris Johnson in the UK. She was elected to lead the Conservative Party, which holds the majority in the Parliament.
- She will tomorrow be formally appointed by Queen Elizabeth II.
- Third female Prime Minister, after Margaret Thatcher and Theresa May. Truss served in May's cabinet, and also that of Boris Johnson. The U.S. has had no female president.
- Is 47 years old, graduated from Oxford and became the youngest female cabinet minister in 2014 at the age of 39.
- Was originally against Brexit. Now is an arch-Brexiteer.
- Is a Conservative (which is similar to being a Republican in the U.S.), and advocates tax cuts, but is open to social spending.
- Supports Ukraine and has similar foreign policy ideals as Johnson. Not much change expected.
- Future relationship with the U.S.? Okay, but she would identify better with a Republican American president. This form of international relationship is malleable, as another example is Japan, which has a party that overwhelmingly rules Japan, but is really Republican in nature.
- On Saturday I reported on National Cinema Day. Was it a success?
- Yes, sort of, in that Labor Day is usually a down weekend for movie goers.
- While 8.1 million tickets were sold, the $3 price made revenues bleak.
- Older films led the way, with Spider-Man: No Way Home at #1, but only made $6 million (with Labor Day to go), a piddling amount considering it has already surpassed $2 billion.
- Coming in second was Top Gun Maverick with an additional 11 minutes of footage, earning $5.5 million.
- Those compare to Labor Day a year ago when Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings earned $94 million for the three-day period. Part of the problem is a lack of super-films. The one being anticipated is Black Adam in October, with Dwayne Johnson playing that role, and including Pierce Brosnan. Related to Shazam, in that he selected Black Adam to be his successor. Will I go see it? Nope, I avoid Marvel films, and now stay home with Netflix and Prime.
Most of you would say, what's the big deal about ordering a book using your iPhone? For me, this was the first time ever. I'm old and I have difficulty downloading anything. For those equally inept as me, you might want to read my two-hour effort to place that book into my Apple book system.
It all began when I read a review of
Touch in the
Star Advertiser. I just finished reading a book,
Agent Sonya, on my iPhone, and thought it would be nice to have another one to occupy time when the occasion allowed.
So I went to my iMac to order one. Tried and tried for a long period and gave up. I then googled how to order a book for my iPhone. Spent a lot more time failing and failing again. Then I saw "chat" as an option, so I clicked on it, expecting that I would would be texting with a computer. The blue portion is me.

Your Message: I would like to order Touch by Olaf Olafsson
Agent's Message: I see. Noted on that!
Your Message: where do I go to order that book?
Agent's Message: One moment please. Let me check my resources first.

Agent's Message: Sorry for the confusion! Please disregard the message that I have sent before the link.
Agent's Message: You can click the link that I have shared so you can download the book that you want.

Agent's Message: Thank you!
Agent's Message: Upon checking here, it will be easier for you if you will download the Apple Book. After you download it you can search the specific book that you want.
Your Message: how do I download the Apple Book?
Agent's Message: May I know what device are you using right now?
Your Message: I am using an iMac, but the books are also linked to my iPhone and AirMac.

Agent's Message: Does the account tab doesn't show at the top menu? It just a word. You can enable your account tab by doing this : Check iTunes menu > Preferences... > Store and make sure the settings are selected. After that click the Restrictions and make sure nothing is selected here.
Agent's Message: Let me know if that will work. Will that be alright?
Your Message: how do i check the iTunes menu?
Agent's Message: Let me check on that.
Agent's Message: May I know is your iTunes in latest version?

Agent's Message: Can you try this one? Click Ctrl+B and let me know if the menu bar shows.
Agent's Message: It will not appear at the iTunes Store. You have to click the menu and search for the "purchases".
Your Message: I did so, and nothing happened. Incidentally, by click do you mean hold both Control and b while clicking on return?
Agent's Message: You have to return first at the iTunes front page and proceed to press and hold both Ctrl and B.
Agent's Message: May I know the exact model of your iMac?
Agent's Message: If the last procedure still didn't work. Can you try it with your iPhone?
Your Message: I just purchased this iMac, so it is the newest. How do I find the exact model?
Agent's Message: Do you know the Serial Number of your iMac? So I can check it here in my end.

Anyway, for me, what an accomplishment. I also saved some money, for the newspaper review showed a price of $28.99. I checked with
Amazon, and the book sold for $25. However, Apple only charged me $15.70.
Typhoon Hinnamnor, now down to 92 MPH, will squeeze between South Korea and Japan on Tuesday.
I might add that the Danielle became the first hurricane of the season for the Atlantic Ocean. She has formed much further north than normally, is at 85 MPH, and is headed towards Europe.
